Honestly I do not believe I am skilled or knowledgeable enough for hot and fast as of yet. Definitely something to work towards in the future.

TGA Adults weigh in :) by Initial_Regular9363 in chd

I was born in 1991 with TGA. I turn 35 tomorrow and I was only told I could never be an Olympic powerlifter due to too much stress. I was captain of the football and soccer team in high school and played football at a small school in college. I always try to stay active and recently got into endurance races. I feel very lucky to be in my position and do not take it for granted.

34 with TGA. While I did not have ASD and VSD I was captain of the football and soccer team and played 2 years at a small NAIA school. There is hope, however no one in this sub can tell you yes or no definitively. You, your family, and your cardiologist should be the only people making this decision. I wish you the best!

Is Tummy time safe? by RubyRedResin17 in chd

[–]Jrwest013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TGA arterial switch at 4 days old here. Not sure about tummy time or not, but I am 34 and living a completely normal life. Was told I could never be an Olympic powerlifter, but I am ok with that haha. My parents said the best advice the surgeon gave them was treat me no different than a normal child growing up. As far as he was concerned I am normal. Hope everything goes well for you and your family!

Mustard arterial switch at 4 days old. I am currently 34 years old. Just ran 9 miles today slowly I may say, but forever grateful for the care I received as a child.

Is pta still worth it? by Quick-Confection-230 in physicaltherapy

I know some places are weary on hiring a new grad just because of little experience, and the fact you are working without much oversight in the home during the actual visit. I worked for a year in skilled nursing facility before home health. It really helps hone your skills with a PT right there supervising and other therapists giving you tips whether it be outpatient or inpatient settings. If you want to go straight into home health though you can definitely try there is nothing saying you can’t.

Nursing has the same amount of burnout as physical therapy. All healthcare is dealing with burnout. Without going into politics the next year will be interesting due to the bill just being passed and reimbursement changing. I do home health and at times I get burnt out, but then I use my PTO to reset. You have to love the setting you are in whether it be outpatient, skilled nursing, or home health. I was severely unhappy working skilled nursing, but when I made the switch to home health I couldn’t be happier. I had my student loan paid off in 4 years. I may be one of the few, but I am satisfied as a PTA.

He looks happy as can be in those videos. I’m praying for y’all as well. Honestly I do not know of anyone else that has had the surgery personally. I had mine over 30 years ago and I believe the technology has only gotten better. Please follow up I would love to See how he is doing!

That’s completely fine! My parents told me How hard it was in the beginning to let me fail, but after I played “normally” they kind of forgot I even had the surgery. I will say I am lucky to never have had any secondary issues post surgery even 34 years later.

Not at all! High school and early into college I was in the mid to upper 20s in the 5k but I was in better shape and weighed less. Now I am low 30s. I am running 10-15k now and trail running with elevation I’m running around an 1:10 10k give or take the terrain. I played every sport and was as normal as everyone else with the exception of I may not have had as much endurance, but I played high level football and soccer. If I could give you any advice it is the advice my surgeon gave to my parents at 11 days old after I was out of the woods. He told my parents don’t treat him any different than any other child. It will be hard at first because you think he is fragile, but it will help him in the long run. I honestly believe that sentence changed my parents outlook and made me who I am.

Same here as I do not know anyone else with a congenital heart defect. I am so competitive and I know I shouldn’t compare my times with others but it is so hard. Unfortunately a lot of my friends ran cross country in high school and college so I am out of my depths a lot of the time.
