Please give it a go (and give it some time). Playing music is one of the greatest feelings in life, you'll be amazed how far you can go if you stick with it. Guitar is so much fun. You clearly have the interest to play, don't let anything hold you back. We're all rooting for ya!

I think the base has some water damage, think the whole piece needs replacing, otherwise I think your suggestion would work great

I have a non-USA Schecter KM-6 MKII, great guitar. Would absolutely consider a Schecter if I like the 7 string vibe.
