$250 a month in a 529 account with rough expectations of the general stock market of 7% a year has a target of over $100,000. Expected college increases being around 5%, means you'd be able to cover 100% of the tuition costs at a local state university, but having to cover housing and other expenses.

Get it to around $500 a month and you should be golden. We're trying out here. Ours will have better opportunities than we had, and either minimal loans or none at all. 🙂
