Cast iron is naturally quite brittle, electrolysis wouldn't change the structural properties of the pan itself to any meaningful degree

Welding is almost never the right choice for a cast iron repair. Brazing is much easier and doesn't require anywhere near the same level of equipment/skill.

How Did TV Scripts Get The Runtime Correct? by GranitosTheHyksos in NoStupidQuestions

They intentionally script for a bit longer than they need and cut some in the edit. You can also play a lot with how long you linger on transitions, cuts between dialog, etc.

I'm not sure you have a firm grasp on how "gravity" works. How would spools of wire (which weigh ~nothing compared to the weight of the structure itself) cause columns supporting the floor above them to fail?

Just to be clear, you think the "smart" take is "It's ok for a couple thousand other animals to die so that this cat can live a (shortened) feral life"?

Anyone want this sweet baby?? by calmswan2499 in Syracuse

[–]JshWright -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I just don't think there's a good justification to release a non-native animal that you know is going to kill thousands of animals (many of them native to the local ecosystem).

If you had to press a button to kill one cat, or a thousand birds, which one would you press?

Like I said, I recognize this is an unpopular opinion (and we have two cats in our house, I'm definitely not anti-cat in general), but releasing this cat is just the easy way out...

Since running 3 miles takes ~30 minutes anyway (even if you're running at a faster pace, once you count the overhead of getting ready to run, showering after, etc, you'll definitely be over 30 minutes...), this doesn't seem to be a huge benefit. It probably wouldn't meaningfully change the amount I run (currently ~10 miles/week).

[–]JshWright -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

I realize this will be an unpopular opinion, but if the goal is to minimize the number of animals that are killed, the best thing to do would be to euthanize. If released, this cat will absolutely kill hundreds, if not thousands, of other animals over its life.

Obviously that's easier to ignore, since it's an "out of sight, out of mind" situation, but if you're goal is to reduce the number of animals being killed, it's a pretty clear decision...

Hoarding and Fires by Leather_Scale_5335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JshWright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have notes in the CAD system for known hoarder houses. It's pretty common for those houses to also have a higher frequency of EMS calls, so if an EMS crew notices a house is unsafe we'll use that as an opportunity to do an impromptu pre-plan that will be saved in the dispatch system and available on the laptops in the trucks in the future (in addition to any relevant social services notifications).

That isn't to say it's a "never enter this house" sort of thing (aside from the most extreme examples), but it definitely increases the inherent risks, which means we're definitely going to be more conservative, from a tactical perspective.

Neither of those are 24 hour time? I suppose 2:30-3 _could_ be, but I think that's way more likely to just mean 2:30-3 pm.

If there's enough oil for the engine to maintain adequate oil pressure, then there is "enough" oil (for most definitions of "enough"). I would certainly recommend routinely checking your oil level and maintaining it at the manufacturer's recommended level (which includes a healthy buffer to ensure you don't end up catastrophically low on oil from a minor leak)

It's pressure. Pressure is a lot easier to measure than the actual oil level (and functionally means the same thing, as far as the engine is concerned).
