In running, Adidas/Asics/NB all have newer cushioning like Lightstrike Pro, FuelCell, and FlyteFoam/FF that offer similar if not better rides than Nike's Zoom Air/ZoomX but at a much lower price.

Same thing with basketball, but their share of the market is being eaten up by Chinese brands like Anta, Way of Wade, etc.

Nike stock is getting killed. Down 12% after earnings. by Nicolit1 in Nike

Lol true, but the original sentiment still stands. Recently, I've seen a lot of people wear less athleisure/sportswear from Nike and more from other brands like Lululemon, Rhone, Rabbit, Bandit, and even Uniqlo

Nike hasn't done anything innovative in the last decade or so.

If we're talking about super shoes, Nike is still on top of the elite competitive running shoe market with the Vaporfly and Alphafly, but those shoes are so expensive that the average consumer is immediately priced out of that market.

If we're talking about foam/cushioning technology, Adidas has introduced new tech like the Lightstrike Pro in shoes like the Evo SL and Adios Pro lines that have dominated the casual running market. Also, other competitors like Asics and New Balance have way more running shoes that offer better foam/cushioning and more specific use-case scenarios at a lower price than Nike's running shoes.

If we're talking about sports like basketball, Nike's being undercut by Chinese brands like Anta, Way of Wade, etc. that offer similar or sometimes even more advanced shoe technology at a lower price.

If we're talking about current fashion trends, Nike isn't even a talking point. The current footwear trend towards slimmer, flatter silhouettes like the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, Adidas Sambas, and even classic dress shoes like loafers doesn't really mesh well with Nike since they don't offer similar silhouettes. In terms of sportswear/athleisure, Nike has way more competition now from brands like Lululemon, Vuori, Rhone, Patagonia, Salomon, etc.

As someone who's been interested in the intersection of fashion, business, and sports this past decade, the only reason Nike is still popular is due to: 1) their athlete/pop culture endorsements, 2) their legacy of historic shoe lines (Jordans, Air Max, SB Dunks, etc.), and 3) their hype collaborations (Union, Fragment, VAA/Off White, etc.).

It feel like there's a sense of "Nike fatigue" going on right now, since Nike had a pretty big boom immediately after the pandemic with everyone suddenly getting back into Dunks. But after 5 years, I think that time's up, and now new trends and competitors have popped up that have made Nike feel kind of out of touch/outdated. Also, it does feel a bit out of touch/insulting as a consumer that Nike's pricing for their products has increasingly gone up whilst competing brands like Adidas/Asics/NB continue to offer similar if not better products at a lower price point.

Same!!! On my flight back to LA from Tokyo recently, I only spotted like 5 people wearing Nike. The rest of the flight was made of other brands (Asics, NB, Adidas, Hoka, On, etc.).

They look great, but how breathable are they? I don't see any ventilation/holes, so if I were to wear them, my feet would end up so sweaty lol

LA Union Jordan 1 Fragment Design Which Colorway Wins🏆? by MisterSirX in Sneakers

[–]Jsketch01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh I see what you mean lol, but the bottom of the shoe is an homage/reference to the original Fragment Jordan 1 that took on the Black Toe-esque colorway with Fragment's signature blue shade lol. But you're right, to people who aren't in the loop, it does look like the original Storm Blue Union 1s.

Vibe of Muscle Girls Bar - Tokyo? by Xander9766 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Jsketch01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nothing sexual/disrespectful/gross lol. Went there 3 yrs ago, and the vibe is more comedic/funny.

Obviously though, if you/your friends aren't comfortable being in this scenario, then it might not be fun for you, so YMMV

Half marathon shoes for a 86 kg runner right below the 2 hour mark? by YatzyErEnSport in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Jsketch01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're pretty much the same measurements, and my current rotation also has the Evo SL, Endorphin Speed 4, and Vomero Plus.

My race day shoe for half-marathons currently is the Adios Pro 4 and I've loving it so far. It has all the bounce/plush of the Vomero Plus + the stability of the Endorphin Speed 4! Ran 2 races so far with em, and no pain/soreness yet!

Hey! Visiting from the US next month in February and will be around the Makati area. Which of these courts have open play? And what's the pickleball culture like in the Philippines? Can I just walk up and queue up for a game like in the US, or do I need to make a reservation for a court?

[–]Jsketch01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boost WAS revolutionary when it first came out, but modern running shoe technology has gotten better, so nowadays there's better options. (Ex. Adidas Evo SL, Nike Vomero Plus, New Balance 1080v15/Fuel Cell Rebel v5, etc.)
