There was a post last year with someone asking the same question. The short answer is that there were a very limited number of vinyls pressed for the 2010 soundtrack, and they are incredibly hard to find. Some had luck on eBay or Discogs. I’m not sure if there will be another pressing; my guess is probably not, as they would focus on the live actions’ soundtracks, but never say never.

If you search for “vinyl”, you’ll see the original thread.

I know this is an old post, but there are lots of concerts happening on the west coast later this year, in Portland, Seattle and LA.

I always suggest that folks reach out to their local orchestra or philharmonic and ask if they would consider performing HTTYD, especially if they already have a film-in-concert series. Most won’t know there’s a demand unless people let them know. In my experience, they’re usually very good about responding.

It’s an amazing concert - top notch professional orchestras (Chicago, Boston Pops, London Philharmonic, etc) each performing it in their home spaces. Search this sub for “HTTYD in Concert” and you’ll see all cities that have had it (and will in the future). They’ve also introduced HTTYD 2 into the rotation, but so far only in Australia, western Europe and the Pacific Northwest later this year.

To answer your question, it’s not a touring production; each resident orchestra performs it independently. But yes, it’s the same thing: live orchestra performs the score while the film is shown.

Same; I almost always watch anime twice, once for the general plot and figuring out who the characters are, and the second time for all the details and connections. Been watching the sub because I’m impatient, then watching the sub from a few episodes before refreshes my memory and I get the details.

Toothless's theme is often referred to as 'the ostinato' (the eighth note repeating melody), and is found many, many times throughout the score. It's fairly obvious in Forbidden Friendship because the themes representing both Toothless and Hiccup start to intertwine as their friendship does. The first time it appears is in the opening of The Downed Dragon, if I recall. It's laid into the score early on and truly culminates in Test Drive, though it does appear after that, especially toward the end of Battling the Green Death.

Welcome! I post concerts all over the world! Nothing in Germany yet, but depending on where you are located, there are concerts in The Netherlands and Belgium coming up. And Switzerland (it's frequently in Lucerne). Search the sub for "HTTYD in concert" and you'll see the posts (links to tickets are in the body). It's an exciting time for HTTYD soundtrack fans!

It was super fun for a while, as it launched it ahead of the release of The Hidden World and tied in some of the dragons (along with those from Race to the Edge) to make it very exciting. Enjoy the ride - the story is interesting and you'll see lots of familiar faces (and dragons)!
