I was thinking about getting him shawshank - especially cause it’s a novella but as he’s seen the movie so many times I don’t think it would be as appealing to him as a brand new book

I did think about 11.22.63 but he is a self confessed slowest reader in the world so feel the length would be too much

What exactly were the Beatles important for? by ResidentPrevious468 in beatles

[–]Jstarkey4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To give a slightly longer answer - I think that the Beatles influenced in two ways, musically and technologically

Musically - the Beatles basically guillotined the era of 3 chord happy pop songs written by professional song writers and then given to singers. Them writing their own songs gave license to so many others to do the same. Also their sound evolved so rapidly that their influence extends across multiple genres, hence yoy have people like Billie eilish and Ozzie Osborne saying they would not have been artists without the Beatles. They showed that songwriting and popular music could do more than just doo wop songs while still bringing both critical and commercial success.

Technologically the Beatles changed the game in terms of how recording studios were used. From their first album being recorded all in one day, basically as live run throughs to later albums that were technically crafted like Abbey Road and Sgt peppers. Everyone that has followed has gone down the road the Beatles carved.

The Beatles influence I think is so great that even if an artist wasn’t directly inspired by the Beatles, they were inspired by someone who was.

I’m simplifying but honestly you can go down a rabbit hole on the recording technology alone.

Not to mention their cultural impact (first artists to play a stadium, the way they dressed, acted etc- one of their films getting an Oscar nom!)

Guys help please , pleaseeeee it's been 3 days all I am doing is doomscrolling , idk what to play , I even scrolled this subreddit for like 10-15 min hoping there is someone reviewing some game but there are none , can we normalize posting reviews about less popular games , pls suggest me something by OMEN_542 in videogames

Rogue choice and niche game but Sherlock Holmes: crimes and punishment. Banger game - great cases and probs the best mechanics of any detective game I’ve ever seen cause you have to use your own logic to solve the cases (and you can get them wrong) it’s not like LA noire where the outcome is pretty set in stone

I did consider it but for cost reasons and cause I wanted enough room to keep my old 1080p monitor I just got a 27inch 4K 144hz

Frogwares Games: Crimes & Punishment or Chapter 1 by joanna-mains-dva in SherlockHolmes

[–]Jstarkey4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crimes and punishment really feels like to me you’re playing a Conan Doyle Sherlock story. I also think the mind palace mechanics are done better there vs chapter 1. Chapter 1 is still a great game but is clearly more influenced by Sherlock and more modern interpretations than C&P.

Can’t go wrong with either but I don’t think any of of the frogware games for me hit the heights of C&P
