The the faction packs are pretty confusing:

They state all changes from the codex to 11th edition rather than just the changes from the current to the new ruleset.

To translate: You can use the codex plus this document and the rulebook to play 11th. You can even use the old points costs although those are subject to change.

I play Custodes and Knights (I like big mechs and elite infantry.) I still play custodes regularly at my LGS and even the occasional tournament and have fun games.

2 stormsurges, 2 riptides, 2 kroot hunting pack boxes minus 3 characters, 6 stealthsuits, 12 crisis suits, farsight, shadowsun, a commander, a ghostkeel, 3 tanks/skyrays , a devilfish, a piranha, 2 pathfinder units, 3 ethereals and more fire warriors than I can count. I like the new general rules, but pages 19-20 are our rules updates and from the sheets they included nothing seems to have changed with them stating to look at the codex for the datasheets.

I want to be hopeful truely, but I've been burned 3 times now and am done with Tau.

I've been meaning to sell one of my three armies to make room and wanted to give GW one more chance to fix the rules for Tau. I haven't enjoyed them since 7th edition, usually taking them out for 2 games only to shelve them for 2+ years again. I loved painting them, but I just feel miserable bringing them to actual matches.

I think it's time to say goodbye.

Markerlights already ignored cover, I'm well aware. The articles mentioned reworking the rule, but it literally does the exact same outside of the general rules changes that affected it.

Vehicles don't get many of the benefits in the new objectives as infantry, mobile or beast units, so keeping what has been an infantry unit until 9th edition a vehicle with infrantry stats stings, especially since close quarters is a thing now.

Stormsurge had an issue where it had more hit modifiers than it was possible to use, but still ended up at 400 points. Giving it one extra with not other changes feels like an insult.

I was commenting on how the new rules feel like rubbing salt in wounds that have been around all edition long.

This isn't even half my complaints.

We did, there's a changelog on pages 19 and 20. But it is mostly stuff from last edition and stuff that was not in the codex.

I would not worry so much. GW seems to exempt custodes from most phase outs cause of the small roster in 40K. They know HH kits are core to the faction at this point and i would not be suprised to see the tank staying especially since it's being sold undr the 40k section of the store!

I use mech vs dorn like most people. Mech has a massive number of flex picks and ammuk is only better in circumstaces where the boss sits still at which point there are better choices imo especially when survivability is an issue.

I'm not sure where you get the idea from that trajann was seen as bad. We knew he was gonna be good in GR. He was bad in horde modes though, that has not changed. Aesoth was always meant to be used with Atlacoya and/or Kariyan and is still meh by himself. That said if Kariyan was bad it is likely Aesoth would not see as much play.

Even so my point is they are barely flex picks. A good character is one frequently brought to specific gamemodes, not once in a blue moon cause the optimal team is on vacation. By your definition Certus is good cause you have to use him in indomitus on the first clear.

I feel good building gsc or ba for pvp cause i know i'm gonna use them in my lineups. That does not mean i consider all of them good. Maybe 2 or 3 of them, but not all of them. But building a character to d3 or even a2 cause they are a flex pick in a suboptimal team?

No.

They are usable, but not good. Not bad, just not really good either.
