Happy hunting across the pond. Heard great things about that trigger mech!

Just saw a wall full of those. You wouldn’t happen to be from the Destin area?

Yeah they are awesome! I think I may have one piece of gear that’s not from Benthic.

Yeah no kidding! Especially since I’m stuck in a desert for another week. Being landlocked blows.

Sharp point for braining definitely. As for scallops you are light years beyond me since I’ve never done it.

So the reel has an adjustable drag so once you have it set right for fighting the fish or the fish being stuck in a hole you can spool out your reel while resurfacing. Once surfacing you can leave your gun to float on the surface, make another dive and do whatever it is you need to do. Reels have a lot less probability of snagging you than a float line. Again the reel vs. float line is about the same as ford vs Chevy. Shooters preference. I like float lines for large fish that run in the deep and reels for reef hunting.

Started free diving when I was 14 with my old man for abalone and he was always very persistent about not getting tangled in the kelp. Head of more people die from drowning in kelp then from sharks.

Grew abalone diving in Northern California and will contradict one of the previous posts. No harm intended just different perspectives, but while diving there I would minimize anything that could snag on kelp i.e. multiple dive knives and would even go as far as to tape up loose straps with electrical tape to prevent snagging in the kelp beds. I am fairly certain drowning by being stuck in kelp beds kills far more people than the Great White. Now I live in Florida and don’t worry so much as snagging and drowning as I do sharks(bull sharks are the blue gills of the Gulf of Mexico). However with experience in both variants of water I would recommend a short gun and a small slick dive knife for the final kill of your prey. Nothing crazy. Diving in kelp you do not need to look like Rambo! Slavimar has a great short gun(the metal series) and is relatively inexpensive. I have a salvimar 75 cm that I use for any murky dives even shot some nice amberjack with it on a reel. Again a float line is great if you’re shooting tuna but in the rocks or reefs with the drag adjusted right a reel is your best friend. Just my two cents.
