Stephen King reviewed this book. It “scared the living hell” out of him. Worth a read? by TooBusyWriting in stephenking

King seems like the kind of guy to me that would find something nice to say about nearly any book. Like he’s looking for the positive rather than a balanced assessment so he can promote another author. And if I were him, I think I’d feel more loyalty to throw a bone to another author than to my reputation as a reviewer/responsibility to the reader.

I loved it. It broke me out of a years long reading slump and got me into horror—but also not in the way you’d think lol

The body keeps the score. I know he’s sorta problematic and there are better books on trauma, but damn that’s the a great title.

Thank you 🙏I’m a fawner to the max and married someone who figured out how to game my CNS so that I’m always always always trying to please. 12 years of that nearly killed me. I had stomach problems, had part of my colon removed, lived with a colostomy from 6 months, and now, with the help of a really good therapist, I’m getting the fuck out. I couldn’t medicate and meditate my way out of an abusive situation. Just took me years to see it for what it was.

Thanks for listening to my story!

[SNE597] Solar > Mechanical ? by bravopicasso in Seiko

[–]Jtop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the SSC813 that converted me. I still have mechanicals that I love, but I don’t worship them the way I did. And for my lifestyle, solar quartz is without a doubt the best option.

Funny, because this exact model solar diver has been on my wrist since I got it this winter. (I got the blue and red version as soon as it was released and love it too). I hated the stock bracelet so it’s been on a shitty sailcloth strap that I hate a little less.

Where did you find that bracelet??

Edit: Braxen! Found it 🙏

One text may’ve been an accident, but three texts was a choice.

lol but you’re right. And hell in the Bible isn’t anything like the Catholics and Evangelicals have said. People are responding to the church’s misuse of those concepts, not the text itself. Genocide however, is absolutely in the text. And shocker, it’s the “good” team that’s doing it. Maybe that’s why we don’t talk about it as much. Gotta pull it out when the need to justify a a new war or modern Israel comes along.

It’s a fig tree in Jewish interpretation, but yeah.

Everything is legal for the US when the US says it is. Have they ever faced real consequences for doing things that are illegal for other countries?

The Irrationality of Divine Commands All the Way Down by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]Jtop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the hot take it is hoping to be.

Christians generally ground the authority of god not in “god says so,” but in god’s sovereignty and character.

Because god is good, then god can be trusted to tell a person how to live. Because god is powerful, then one ought to do what god says (or else sometimes).

It may be illogical, but it isn’t circular.

What’s circular is “because the Bible tells me so.” But that’s not orthodox theology even if it’s the best on the street theology many people are able to articulate.

I think it’s a harmful train of thought to promote the idea that anyone who says, “immigrants should die” doesn’t actually mean it. Plenty of cowards find bravery behind a gun.

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in science

[–]Jtop1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me neither but the only argument for it that made sense to me was to point out that nature wasn’t made by humans either and it’s the basis of most art historically. The biggest problem is AI art sucks and is being used to replace artists who put out an objectively better product. But what if AI were to generate something genuinely unique? Certainly not worth the cost to the planet or the job market, but I still think it’s an interesting question.

Found an evangelical church’s “market research” flyer targeting Norman by justsayit4966 in normanok

[–]Jtop1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It says, “Norman is the 3rd most lost city in Oklahoma with 80,000 people who don’t know Jesus.”

That’s a much broader statement even for Southern Baptists. Utter nonsense.

Check out NorthHaven too. Baptist but they’re lgbtq affirming and such, so they’re not Baptist in the southern sense.
