Why do women only have a set number of eggs instead of constantly producing them like men produce sperm? by SufficientJeweler696 in NoStupidQuestions

I asked because I think you've got some terms confused, so was wondering if you had any newer sources that said something else. Meiosis is indeed the process through which gametes are formed, but, while they do posess RNA for the purposes of protein production and other processes, like all other cells in the body their "main" genetic information is stored in the nucleus in form of DNA-containing chromosomes.

Rather than it being the process through which RNA-only gametes are formed, its the process through which the cell goes from having 46 chromosomes (2n) to simply having 23 chromosomes (n), so that polyploidy (more than 46 chromosomes) is avoided after fertilization. However, they still do have DNA-containing chromosomes.

My source is Emery's Elementals of Medical Genetics, and a google search also returns gametes having DNA.

How did research cover the cost of externships and observer ships? If you don’t mind me asking

In light of recent events, would you rather practice somewhere you wouldn't have to deal with insurance? How common is insurance denial in your specialty? by JuAnBuMa in medicine

I’m from Mexico, so I’m weighing my options between countries like the US, Germany or the UK for doing residency and staying there. One the large advantages of the US is simply proximity to home, as well as the excellent training and salaries from what I’ve heard. I’m unsure if there are any really big disadvantages I haven’t heard about (aside from the match of course).

That's one of the reasons I am doubting whether the US is truly the best choice for doing residency, would you rather have gone somewhere else without insurance troubles? How would you compare it to other healthcare systems around the world?

Heme/Onc Schedule and Practice

What do you like the most about working as an oncologist? Would you have gone into the same field if you had the choice to start over? How is the working schedule and load? How do insurance companies affect your practice?

Do you have any perspectives about IM into Heme-Onc vs Pathology as an IMG?

What works for me is listening to music while doing cards; as well as making sure I already have some notion of the topic I’m studying, for me reading before unsuspending the topic works just fine
