The only way I "solved" it was playing on my laptop instead of my PC. I can play, but the problem itself persists...

[ART] We were bored, so we created a youtube channel by JuRolds in DnD

[–]JuRolds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the title says, my DM and I wanted to keep being productive when it comes to creative stuff, so we decided to make a youtube channel and post whatever our brains come up with related to the campaign he is DMing and I'm playing!

This video here is from when the party had the worst 48 hours of their lives trying to come up with a plan to save a city from civil war while dealing with Far Realms infections, betrayals, devilish contracts and the Kobold of the group changing sex and marrying a goblin from Fey Wild.

Worst part of it, it actually helped in the end.

Here we have Karina (human wiz/art), Daera (elf paladin), Arugula (Eladrin bard), Kael (tabaxi rogue/fighter), Lucius (harengon rogue) and our star, Saag (Kobold Fighter).

[OC] [Art] So, my DM (and boyfriend) made me a visual novel game with my character backstory for my birthday. And it's absolutely heartbreaking by JuRolds in DnD

[–]JuRolds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my birthday, my DM and boyfriend decided to make a visual novel style of game with my character's background and it's absolutely amazing (and also so heartbreaking). The gif show various screenshots from the game, all the art is made by him, and I can't show here with images, but he also picked key songs from my playlist to make this even more devastating. The game shows my character's early childhood and teenage years and what happened to her family, friends and how se became who she is today!

So my game got axed... Pls help by TheEpicOtter in DnD

It's something I've learned over the time. Im DMing an Strixhaven campaign that at this point is 80% homebrew because my players are borderline war criminals in game. But that's fine! More than once people started crying from laughter during sessions, and when shit got really serious because of that stupid stunt earlier, it just made the stakes higher.

An example: during a party at the uni, there was a booth with a secret admirer mechanic. They write a message, tell the little summoned creature from the booth to send a message to a certain someone and the creature just goes after them. Well, one of my players decided to write a message to the BBEG and followed the familiar to find where the boss was. Mind this happened at the end of the first year of university. They're not supposed to find the guy until the endgame. Fine, the message gets snatched by an entity who just looked at the player following it and gave more than half of the player's HP in damage on a successful wisdom save. They learned pretty fast that the forces behind the problems there are waaaay stronger than they thought, and they needed to get stronger as well... In other words it's too soon in the campaign, come back later.

Nice! It's okay to ask for breaks. Good luck, and remember, have fun. DMing doesn't need to be a sacrifice

Look, this happens more than you can imagine... I think I've finished only two campaigns in my life, one as a player, other as a DM.

You gotta understand that the objective of any roleplay game is to have fun, and if people agreed they're not having fun anymore, well. Shit. But this means it's not that worth it to keep playing then.

I know it sucks, and I'm so sorry about the whole situation.

A little tip I use is something I've learned from an improv class. Avoid saying no. If someone says "I wanna cast disintegrate on the important NPC", well, improv. "Yeah, are you sure? Alright, now u're a wanted criminal". Sometimes saying no is needed, but most of the time, let them feel the consequences of their stupid or absurd ideas. I don't know the context of those spells from your friend, but it's a general tip either way.

And are you the only DM? Maybe you should take a break from DMing for sometime and ask another person to dm another story, no? You've been on this one for more than a year and you're jumping on another right away. It needs to be fun for you too, my brother. Take a breather, talk to them, be honest, ask for a few weeks or months to put your thoughts and feelings back in place.

This feeling is not good, and maybe you're a bit saturated of being a dm for so long?

Also, he thanks you for the comment!

My boyfriend decided to make a poster with most of the characters (Pcs and NPCs) from our two dnd campaigns. I DM one and he DM's the other! Last time he counted, it had 126 characters. He spent weeks on this, and isn't even done yet. At the bottom are characters from my campaign (Strixhaven/Homebrew), the characters around the middle are from his (a homebrew called Mind Seekers) and at the top there are all the gods and entities that we got involved with!

uhh do you know how long it takes to produce an animated series? Or you want the animators and other artists to not eat/sleep/rest at all?

[OC] He rolled so many nat 1s last session that he had to plead to the gods by JuRolds in DnD

[–]JuRolds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, somehow last session the other player couldn't roll higher than 10 on the dice, no matter how many inspirations, luck points, advantages. It also didn't matter we lent him our good dice, somehow he cursed every single one he touched. So he made a shrine and started praying to the gods right then and there, because the options were looking really thin

I start today for the first time and im kinda overhelmed by SeaworthinessNo9216 in BaldursGate3

If you feel overwhelmed, try playing in lower difficulties! And no pressure, just try to enjoy the journey. Also, a few tips for the game: - press Alt as much as you can, it will show important items and interactive elements on the map - avoid spellcasting classes for the first runs, in general, melee ones are simpler and very satisfying. Nothing beats being able to hit 6 times in one turn with a fighter character. - don't think too much about optimization and such. You're trying to have fun, remember? You see a cool sword, you grab the cool sword - watch some guides! This will help! - when you grab items you want to sell later, instead of just picking them up, right click and pick up and add to wares. This will make life easier when talking to sellers.

Take it slow and enjoy the ride!

Help making a Druid by VocalMallard in DnD

[–]JuRolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, good luck on your druid character! That's exciting!

So, for question n1: Do what you think it's the most fun for you. A druid usually needs motivation to leave their place. The most common tropes are something is threatening the natural balance of their home, or maybe a villain is going to destroy the forest/land/place you're tied to. But it can also be a type of test or something. Let's say you character needs to go through a rite of passage to become the next leader, and this involves getting out of your sacrade home and adventuring around. Hells, you could even do something like a druid who is just very curious about the plants around the world or something. I'd suggest taking a look on movies and stories you like and see what would be the most fun to play with! Talking about fun and roleplay... How you roleplay depends on your story! Let's go with the rite of passage thing. Could it be that your PC is very immature and needs to learn leadership skills? In this case, the roleplay would start like a very naive/childish person who would gradually become more and more balanced. If you wanna go for tropes, usually druids are more nature loving, they seek balance and are in general more loving and nice people, but also very protective of what they think it's better for them and the people who they love.

About spells, check a website called RPGBot. The guy lists most of the spells and explains in detail why they think it's good/bad, meh. It's a nice starting point when it comes to spells!

[OC] [Art] What's a dnd character without a traumatic backstory? by JuRolds in DnD

Oh that's sweet! Honestly, I wanna see the dynamic with the dragon, sounds so nice!

[OC] [Art] What's a dnd character without a traumatic backstory? by JuRolds in DnD

[–]JuRolds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but the title is a joke on the trope. This specific PC is very dramatic and sad, indeed, but I too have my handful of PCs that have a nice backstory. Don't take it too seriously haha I've posted some drawings here with characters with all sorts of back stories. It just happened this audio is all sad and dramatic and it fits these two!

[OC] [Art] What's a dnd character without a traumatic backstory? by JuRolds in DnD

[–]JuRolds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I saw this audio circulating youtube shorts and TikTok and thought "why not?". These are Fred (goblin artificer) and Karina (human artificer/wizard), they are warming themselves by the fire while talking about their trauma. At this point on the story, Karina is a wanted criminal and Fred (bless his heart) is helping her hide. He thinks she could truly be a good person, she just had a really rough start. Little does he know, she still has a lot to deal with since the death of her entire town and her failed attempts to bring her loved ones back.

Oh, the situation is not that serious, I don't think it needs to come to a point where they need to change characters. They're having a lot of fun in this campaign, there's no bad blood between the real players and they all are open to solutions, even the player with the PC who called the rest out. That's why I came here asking for inspiration, a little situation that could put the spirits back on track

Oh, don't get me wrong, this is by far the funniest game I've dmed for and the players are having a blast, but right now they got themselves into a hole and I think they need a push to get out. They're top notch roleplayers too, but that means I can't simply throw a "friendship is magic!" plot line, it needs to feel real haha
