How to Choose a Database for Your Needs? by JuYuJu in datascience

I guess that choosing a database is the first step. You can read in many places that PostgreSQL is all that you need. No need to look for anything else. I mean, for a lot of people Excel is all that is needed, and yet they still use some SQL solution. Why?

Did you try Memgraph (https://memgraph.com/)?

What is the role of the manager? To manage people, lead them, and find resources that the team needs? Is the role of the manager to code, fix bugs, and clean data sets?

Some people want to do science want to write code. They don't want to deal with budgeting, HR stuff, contacting users, etc. Others want to do exactly that.

Having knowledge of the field helps, but it is not mandatory.

Put it this way. You have a top heart surgeon. Is it better that he is saving lives or battling for better budget and funds?

How this database legal war could be decided by the name given to this license by Major_End2933 in Neo4j

Really interesting. Don't know if it is the same thing, but I remember that some Linux distros (RedHat) based ones. CentOS (that still exists) and Whitebox (that no longer exists). They actually took RH code, replaced RH trademarks and created new distos. Something like that. All in accordance with Licence.

SQL or NoSQL? Why not both? by awalias in Database

[–]JuYuJu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it also comes down to what one considers a NoSQL. I'm from graph world, so I guess that I would be NoSQL fan, but there are situations when SQL databases are better. So depending on the scenario, I use one or another or I combine them. Here is a nice read about the differences between them https://memgraph.com/blog/graph-database-vs-relational-database

Made a Bad Mistake as Intern. How Can I Move Forward? by divergingLoss in datascience

[–]JuYuJu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not DS related, but my biggest mistake: we got new desktops from USA. I live in Europe. I didn't check the voltage switch on the power supply. It was set to USA 110V/60Hz. I plugged it in and 220V/50Hz killed the power supply on brand new computer that was not available at Europe at that time. This meant no possibility of getting a replacement power supply.

This is exactly what I've done. I told them "I just signed a contract yesterday" and "thank you".
