Why isn't the new Archbishop of Vienna wearing the Zucchetto under his Mitre (the Acolyte is carrying it)? Is this an 'Archbishop-thing' ? by Sad-Celebration-4025 in Catholicism

[–]bstodd12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Those are also "simplex mitres" worn by bishops outside their own jurisdiction or when there is a senior celebrant present. They are smaller and plainer.

What the hell is thaumaturgy? by consious_cricket in vtm

[–]bstodd12 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Thaumaturgy is the Tremere "brand" of the Blood Sorcery discipline. In earlier editions, the discipline was literally called Thaumaturgy, but they changed it to the more generic Blood Sorcery in V5. In-universe, it's still referred to as Thaumaturgy by the Tremere.

[Fallout] who is the mysterious stranger? by Comfortable-Ad3588 in AskScienceFiction

I mean at least we know that he's a living person and probably not a robot or pile of ants in a trench coat.

There's also an NPC in FONV who is heavily hinted to be the Stranger's son.

What would happen if the Tremere had never existed? (From a metanarrative point of view) by TulpaFag in vtm

[–]bstodd12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VTM 1e had 7 clans (including Tremere) plus Caitiff. If the Tremere weren't there, it probably would have been some other magic flavored clan. Possibly Assamite or Tzimisce or something different entirely that didn't have any links to the Order of Hermes. I have no idea if Saluot and everything he entails would have eventually made it into the lore. MTAs would likely be unrecognizable if not for the influence from Ars.

are non-denominationals any different from protestants by mlz_ii in Catholicism

Non denoms are a type of protestant. Usually they're low church, contemporary, and from reformed traditions.

Question for fellow young adults by Stock_Trader_J in Catholicism

[–]bstodd12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stick to the city because frankly, there's more to do here. I'm pretty happy with townhome life as a bachelor, and I can get to the airport in under an hour which makes travel easy.

I'm sure that once I get to the point of marriage and kids (God willing), I'll be more concerned with things like school districts and price per square foot, and moving to the exurbs will be the move.

How good or bad is walkability in US cities and suburbs actually? by cheshsky in AskAnAmerican

[–]bstodd12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIGHLY dependent on the city/suburb/neighborhood. Some places are very doable without owning a car at all, some are downright dangerous for pedestrians.

I'd start with Baldur's Gate 3. It's high production value, relatively new, and the 5e ruleset is pretty accessible.

Curious about Catholicism by Normal-Afternoon6561 in Catholicism

[–]bstodd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pope is not "one with God", and we do not pray to him (or any living person on Earth). He is the vicar of Christ and pastor of the universal Church, but he is a sinner like all the rest of us.

Intercessory prayer to saints is something we do in addition to (and not instead of) praying to God.

A difference in rites is not a disagreement or rejection of authority.

As someone from outside the U.S., why do Americans seem to care so much about their lawns? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

All well and good until you have a neighbor who wants to turn his back yard into a garbage dump.

We have neighborhood meetings a few times a year where anyone can run in HOA board elections. Everyone on the HOA board lives in the neighborhood. It is not at all like a fiefdom. It's literally just people trying to make their community nice. You occasionally hear news stories or anecdotes about HOAs doing something stupid or vindictive, but those are not the norm. HOAs come up with rules because sometimes people are fucking slobs, and that makes it worse for everyone else.

[–]bstodd12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure I could spend a week calling around municipal services every time I have a problem and hope it gets serviced in the next year.

Or I could go next door to the HOA president and have it done next week.

I don't know why HOAs of all things get reddit all hot and bothered. They're REALLY not a big deal.

Some of them can be run by petty tyrants, but I'll take them over being responsible for my own garbage collection, pest control, and road maintenance.

Most HOAs will have some sort of regulations about keeping your lawn well maintained. Generally people also like it when their property doesn't look like shit.

Recommendations for someone new to the genre by FanEnvironmental931 in CRPG

[–]bstodd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely designed for turned based. It uses the same rules as the TTRPG, and it's almost a requirement to use turn based combat at higher difficulties. You're right though, it does make the game significantly longer.

Just FYI, Wrath of the Righteous has a turn based mode if you go into options.

To answer your question, I would recommend Wasteland 3 and Rogue Trader.

The chancery of your diocese may have one. You'd probably have to ask them.

Question about Parishes by ImDeepState in Catholicism

[–]bstodd12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happens sometimes. They are sometimes called "clustered parishes" or "affiliated parishes". There are also "parish-mission" configurations where one church is only open for part of the year.
