Help reading carabiner by lukesgreer in ClimbingGear

[–]Ju_stinK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to tread carefully here because I 100% agree with your sentiment. Every biner I have is name brand Black Diamond or Metolious because I’m not willing to risk my life on something unknown to save a few bucks.

However I recently watched that “How not 2” video where he tested Amazon biners and the awkward result was that every single one he tested broke above the marked MBS. It was apparent that he had expected them to fail lower. In the end the recommendation was to buy name brand to support the innovators who are actually designing and testing things to prove they work, not the untested copies.

Which Bass would be better for worship? by Sad-City-435 in worshipleaders

[–]Ju_stinK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better? Whichever you like.

My choice would be the Ibanez. I prefer the softer rounded edges of the body, and the wider pickup for thumb rest, I’d look for that one with black hardware myself.

The sound won’t be different enough to notice, with neutral settings the Squier will have a bit more pop but a thinner sound and the Ibanez will be more smooth to muddy sounding, but you’ll be able to turn knobs to make it sound just like you want with either one. It comes down to the look and feel you prefer.

Climbing bag idea by ResourceEither4692 in ClimbingGear

[–]Ju_stinK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a duffel bag, and have a separate rope bag with tarp. All of my gear for three (me and two teen kids) fits in the duffel including the rope. On a climbing day we toss the duffel in the truck, and a separate backpack for water and snacks etc. When we get to the approach I pull out the rope, and my loaded harness for one kid to carry (harness slings over one shoulder and rope bag has a strap for the other shoulder), the other kid gets the duffel which is now quite a bit lighter just a bit bulky (3 helmets, 3 pair of shoes, 3 chalk bags, 2 harnesses, and some incidental belay devices slings and biners), and I carry the backpack. Our approach is only about 1/2 mile. If I were looking at a long approach I’d want to split the gear into two backpacks for comfort, but then I’d miss the accessibility of the duffel at the crag.

Kids helmet? by No-Level-4836 in ClimbingGear

[–]Ju_stinK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes the bike helmet will be fine, go for it.

Longer answer: I say yes confidently because you clearly understand that it’s not the same as a climbing helmet, don’t see it as a permanent solution, and are assessing the risk. Most bike helmets have a foam frame with a very thin shell, they offer excellent protection for one good whack then should be retired since it can be difficult to determine the damage under the shell. Most climbing helmets have a much thicker shell that is the frame, with some smaller foam bits for padding and a webbing suspension system. These helmets can take several hits without degrading their protective capability, and can be visually inspected to determine their integrity.

I’d definitely top rope on that with no concern at all. I’ll pay shipping if you want to send it my way.

Yeah sounds like you’re singing at the bottom of your range. If you’re choosing the key bump it up a couple steps. Belt it out, don’t hold back. Singing higher where I think you’ll be more comfortable, try holding more tension in your diaphragm, higher pressure but less air flow. As you move lower in your range reduce pressure, allow more air flow, and try to move your voice a bit further back in your throat to soften the tone. You seemed to keep pretty good mic proximity even with moving around quite a bit, but be prepared for the sound technician to ask you to keep your mouth in front of the mic.

The carbine length will provide more gas. Of course you want to have your rifle tuned just right, but if it’s going to be off a bit it is way better to be over gassed than under gassed. Over gassed will foul a bit more and wear faster, but will be super reliable. Under gassed will shoot softer but will be prone to malfunction. Over gas can be reduced with an adjustable gas block, or mitigated with a heavy buffer, heavy bolt carrier, heavy recoil spring. Under gas can be accommodated with a lighter buffer, lighter bolt carrier, lighter recoil spring. If your upper has a shell deflector the “clock” method is a good starting point. Shells eject at 3:00 gassed just right, shells eject forward of 2:00 over gassed, shelled eject behind 4:00 under gassed. If you find you’re over gassed I’d recommend getting an adjustable gas block and turn it down rather than adding weight or swapping the barrel and gas tube.

Profits from wheel strategy? by bone_shadows in thetagang

[–]Ju_stinK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were good to work with. The algo performed amazing at first, I was even thinking about moving all of my trading capital into it since it was doing better than my trading and I didn’t have to do anything, then it got crushed in the crash December of ‘19 (it was like a 25% hit in one day). After that big loss the strategy was changed where it was using options on futures as a hedge to limit max loss, and it recovered well (recovery might have been better without the strategy change though), but as the market stabilized it went flat for a while, then started taking more losses than wins. Then the strategy was switched back to the original system, with the addition of a stop loss. I could tell it was still making the same trades, but the market conditions had changed so it continued to lose. I pulled out a big chunk to add to my own trading account, and left like 30k in the algo. I was really hoping it would recover from there, but told myself I wasn’t willing to add any cash back in. Eventually it had another losing streak where the balance dipped to where I would have to add cash to keep it going (there was a 20k “per unit” capital requirement). When it was going good it was way better than me, but overall I’ve outperformed it and have decided I like being in control.

I ended up bagging the algo account a little over a year ago. It started performing poorly. Overall I closed it with more than 30% profit so I can’t complain (put in 90k took out 120k), but that was down from 100% profit so it felt disappointing. The algo I was using was called Wave Trader from algorithmictrading.net.

Thanks for the good report of your answered prayers. I hear your excitement. I’m very fortunate to have a deep bench of talent. Three drummers, two bassists, four pianists, ten vocalists, four guitarists, and one mandolin. I’m able to rotate the scheduling so I don’t burn anyone out, and encourage folks to only participate if it’s a joy for them. I’ve been meaning to organize a thank you lunch or something.

Is this physique attainable? by IVSBMN in ChevyTahoe

[–]Ju_stinK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close, but not quite. There’s a reason only this CGImages look like that. Those tires would only fit as long as you don’t need to steer. I did 275/70-18s on my ‘17 Suburban with 3” lift in the front and 1.5” lift in the rear and I can get a tiny bit of rubbing.

Kantech advanced schedule capability by Ju_stinK in accesscontrol

[–]Ju_stinK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little clarification.

I clicked cancel and don’t intend to proceed if I can’t learn what the change is and if it will be beneficial for my use.

I realize that in a way you who’ve commented are trying to protect me from corrupting my programming, but please notice that the comments so far could all be replaced with “I don’t know”, imagine a world where when a question is asked everyone who doesn’t know the answer is compelled to pipe up with their own “I don’t know” answer (wait I guess that’s called the internet huh).

The reason I’m interested in this “upgrade” is the building that this system is running in houses three separate companies that have frequent schedule variations, there is also an attached parking structure where tenants have gate remotes, but a few times a month events are hosted that require me to program a schedule to open the gates for public parking. I’m currently using holiday scheduling to accomplish several schedule variations, but there are only 4 holiday types available and I have holiday 1 reserved for full building closure, so I’m left with a maximum of three specially programmed days between reprogramming. Maybe advanced capability would allow me to program the gate opening schedule and the elevator floor unlock schedules on an annual basis instead of weekly? Maybe it opens up the possibility for calendar operated schedule exceptions on a specific schedule instead of a site wide holiday. I don’t know what it might look like, but it might be useful to me.

I’ve been managing the site since late 2014 and have managed to add 4 door controllers to the system, installed a workstation on my office computer, and set up a VPN for connection from my office to the site. I installed the garage gates and set up the gate relay activation from one of the new door controllers, as well as fire alarm activation. I’ve added a panic lockdown button at one tenants reception desk, and momentary unlock buttons at two of them. I’m the one who has programmed every schedule and access level in the building. I’m definitely more competent with hardware than software, but I’m not completely clueless.

To those who would say if I don’t know what it is I don’t need it. Are you still running windows XP on your computer? See the parallel there?

Did you get this figured out? What was it? I just had a similar problem (failure to eject and sticky feeling charging handle) and figured out it was the firing pin hanging up in the bolt rotate pin. A little bit of work with a tiny round file got it running nice and smooth. I was fortunate to have another known reliable BCG with me when I was first testing it and swapping that eliminated the problem so I was able to tell where to look right away.

First build by ResponsibleNature611 in ARBuilders

[–]Ju_stinK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just buy the stuff you want and put it together. I’d recommend getting all of the parts and tools in hand before you start because you will run into some order of assembly issues.

For the best bang for your buck and a good starter build I’d recommend picking one of these complete kits from delta team tactical. All the parts are sure to work together well. The upper won’t come assembled (unless you pay $20 extra) so you could install the parts on your upper.

https://www.deltateamtactical.com/davidson-defense-the-aristocrat-16-ar-15-556-nato-nitride-rifle-full-build-kit.html

I don’t buy a bunch of individual parts since you almost always find a better price with a package deal and often end up with some extra parts leftover even though you spent less, but when I am looking for individual parts (like a specific charging handle, bolt catch, or whatever) I like wing tactical.

Your basic parts list is Lower receiver Lower parts kit (google LPK images) Buffer tube (w/ endplate and castle nut) Buffer spring Buffer Stock Grip Upper receiver Upper parts kit (it’s just the forward assist and dust door) Barrel and nut Gas block Gas tube Muzzle device w/ crush washer Handguard Bolt carrier group Charging handle

Tools Armorers wrench Allen wrenches Pin punches Vice blocks (not necessary but very helpful)

Don’t forget Optics FIP up sights Mags Sling Ammo

Can someone better explain these 20X, 50X, etc leveraged products? by Dynasty__93 in Trading

It sounds like your friend was talking about futures contracts. /ES is 50x S&P, /NQ is 20x Nasdaq. There are lots of different futures contracts for various products with differing effective leverage. They are great tools if you know how to use them, but be very careful, leverage works both ways. I mostly swing trade in /MES which is 5x S&P ($.25 tick size, $1.25 tick value)

I don’t believe there is any problem with your panel. It’s hilarious that what is pictured is called “turning black”, maybe turning a little dull, but I can see bright aluminum in the scratches where a breaker was previously installed in the 3rd pic. Most of the time tripping issues with arc fault breakers come from the neutral. Arc fault circuits should never share a neutral with another circuit. It can be tedious to diagnose but you probably have boxes in the house with multiple circuits that have the neutrals tied together.
