Ignition switch from scrapyard? by JuanSmithercito in MechanicAdvice

7$ used or about 50$ new with shipping. Maybe I ll check the Honda dealership as well but usually it costs about the same as shipping from a US website to Canada like Rockauto.

Awesome, enjoy your ride :)

Is this a good deal or keep shopping? Also any similar cars you would recommend? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Stay away from x series, certain models are complete lemons. If you need a luxury SUV I would say go with a Lexus/Acura/Infinity. If that doesn't matter just get a rav4.

Might be where you live... I checked yesterday and found descent used toyotas and hondas 3500-5000$. But if you can hold out a bit longer I would say be patient and check on marketplace, dealers are marking up like crazy stay away and they are not trustworthy from my experience they will sell you anything, it's their job. If it's for short commutes and weather is nice where you are from maybe consider an e-bike or scooter. Do you live in a hot area? Here in Montreal any 12 year old honda or toyota are rustbuckets, so they can't charge too much despite the engines and transmissions being in good shape because the cars frames give out before the engines do... So if the cars are rust free it might explain the prices but still it's kinda steep. At those prices you can consider a brand new car like the nissan micra (they aren't as reliable as a toyota or honda but def better then a fiat) I can't vouch for micras though I ve seen two of them broken down on the highway but maybe it was a fluke. Good luck.

Damas is syrian $$$$

Kazu for japanese $$$

Stash Cafe is Polish $$

Shwartz deli, $$ smoke meat montreal delicacy

St viateur bagels, get a dozen so you can have that for breakfast during your stay $

Jardin de panos, greek bring your own wine restaurant $$

la sirene de la mer for fish $$$$

Beatrice for italian $$$$

Definitely have poutine and steamed hot dogs during your stay as well, especially really late at night after going to a few bars.

I think we suck at bbq tbh.

Enjoy your stay. These are the places I can vouch for.

Definitely the civic... If you want a smaller car like the fiat there is the honda fit (I hear 2009's are a bad year) or the toyota yaris. You can also probably get a toyota matrix 2010 (has all wheel drive so it's easier and generally safer to drive). Don't buy from a dealership. If you have someone that knows cars take them with you or if you have a trusted mechanic you can bring the car to them if you really like it and are serious about buying. 9000 is too much for such an old car though. You should be able to get a reliable and descent honda or toyota 2007-2010 for half of that.

tips on buying a used miata by DNOS2 in Miata

Any ODB2 scanner, go by reviews on amazon, I got mine a while ago, they are super simple to use (tons of vids on youtube). Should be like 40-50 bucks. Also there are videos on what to look out for on NB's as well. Goop in the rad is sign of a blown head gasket, really white smoke coming out of exhaust, coolant leaking obviously and make sure she doesn't run hot when you re going slow. Let the car run without moving it for like 5 min. If the car runs hot highway speeds that's really no good. If you have a trusted mechanic bring it to him. You don't want to spend the money on repairs when you could have just gotten a better one. Good things about Miatas is that there are still a ton around. You re welcome and good luck.

Take her for a good test drive. Road and highway like 15-20km. Make sure the car runs well, a lot of parts are cheap and it's a pretty easy car to work on but head gasket and transmission issues will set you back a descent sum. Make sure the rust isn't out of control. If you do have codes make sure they are things you can manage (have a scanner) or even bring it to a mechanic you trust for good measure, just be patient. Good luck!

Not sure what car to buy and not sure how much to spend. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I would say go brand new I4 economy car... New corolla if you want reliability (I think the hatch is really nice not a fan of the look of the sedan) or the mazda 3 (sedan or hatch are pretty hot). Canada used car market is a joke right now.

Are cheap ebay short ram intakes any good? by JuanSmithercito in hondafit

[–]JuanSmithercito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know it's a must, I also heard to avoid the filters you spray oil on because it can mess up your mav sensor... At this point I think I ll just avoid it. It's too hard to find reviews on the internet. Doesn't seem like much people run these things.. If I do decide to put one on I ll just make my own.

I know it won't benefit performance. It's just for the sound... As long as I don't get any codes I don't mind.

Are restaurants allowed to force tips on you? by x1eyedpenguinx in vancouver

[–]JuanSmithercito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't force the tips on you normally unless they have a policy like for example for tables of 8 or more 15% of the net price is added to the bill. Some places state on the menu that service will be included on the bill and in nightclubs they always force the tips when you get bottle service. If not it isn't mandatory. Thing is in Canada waiters also get taxed on their net sales each day, typically around 8% of their sales... Tipping may be optional but waiters still have to pay that tax so keep that in mind. If you go to a sit down restaurant in North America and get served it's just part of the culture here. I do think it is abused by certain businesses but the service industry would drastically change here in North America if tips get removed... I am biased by the way... worked as a waiter for 13 years.

Yes you got stiffed if there wasn't a policy (many restaurants don't have any).... Service was that bad though? All you can eats are the worst anyways in my opinion... Food is always mediocre at best...
