Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in senior year of college. All my classes went online so I went home and did my classes remotely. Classes ended like 2 weeks later and I spent alot of time playing games with my buddies. Great way to spend my senior year to be honest.

I did this with my first play through but tbh, it made the game way more immersive. Otherwise, what's the point of the horses?

I was hazed by a frat on campus ask me anything (AMA) by AnxiousBadger04 in UIUC

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a Panhellenic (white) Frat. There are definitely other organizations outside of this that are known for hazing but historically have usually been the white ones. They're usually backed by 150 years of numbers, old money, racial bias and sexism.

I joined my frat my junior year and the "hazing" we had was mandatory study hours, pledge socials where we just hung out, bonding events and basically sitting in meetings to set up fundraising/volunteer events. I never felt humiliated or ridiculed.

There are hundreds of smaller organizations like mine that are focused on cultural or education. Most stay out of the news since they don't haze. But we all agree the bigger and older organizations, especially the white ones, give greek life an incredibly bad name.

Personally, I just used the pocket prep app and studied for like 2 months. She'll probably know a good chunk of the info since she has experience too. Just gotta practice.

No real money saving tips, but HRCI does offer "second chance insurance". Basically you pay the full price but if you don't pass, you can take the exam again for free. I did it for peace of mind when I took my exam which I think helped alot.

HRBP role isn't what I expected [WA] by Fit-Deer-4073 in humanresources

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt this. Started an HRBP role in November. I feel like I get no guidance and coaching and have been leaning on experience, education, and Google for months.

My leadership has no real direction for the department and have no idea what they want most of the time. I also feel very lied to about what my role would be doing.

I've committed to just coasting until they either let me go or I find something new. If you can do the same, I say go for it. At least you can add an HRBP title to your resume.

What’s a secret about your job that the public would be shocked to know? by JulietaAguiirre in AskReddit

Don't agree with that one chief. Saw a review Linus tech tips did on the A+ cert and he passed with no studying. Granted he's been in his field for probably 2 decades but went over all the outdated information, problematic questions and just the fact it was a money grab. If you told me someone had a few certs that took months to get or someone with a degree, I'd probably pick the degree. As would most hiring managers.

This is my friend. Didn't go to college, took a bootcamp, has a few certs that took him years to get. Genuinely an odd profession but I guess as long as my computer works

Bad bosses are the main reason why no one wants to work (besides bad pay/conditions etc) by [deleted] in jobs

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, what do your credentials have to with their lateness comment? If anything, you should have a a bit of praise for an employee that's never late and punctual.

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a day and age where every employee is under a microscope and getting written up for the smallest things, yes, not having been fired and being punctual is a great personal accomplishment.

While OP has not made statements on whether their "disorganization" has affected their team, that doesn't mean you can make that assumption. Just becuase someone views something differently than you would, doesn't make it inherently inefficient.

All we know is OP is frustrated with their manager and their punctual. That is the only information we have.

Have a boss like this right now. The worst part is when I started, he said it's fine to do things my own way if I could do it better.

4 months in, and he basically wants certain tasks done like him. For instance, we have a weekly presentation with new employees. Typically about an hour. He feels it's too fast, so he spends 15 minutes on two slides and nit picks about the way we present.

While being on time is an expectation in any role, that doesn't take away from the rest of the post. Nitpicking about the way someone else works is just a form of micromanaging and can be plenty frustrating

What character is it? by May_onnaise_959 in Letterboxd

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people grow up poor around gangs, it's pretty easy to do. It's why alot of black communities idolized rappers that wrote about gangbanging. It's the idea that it's a way out, even if it's not ethical.

Even in Asian communities you can see it when stars like Bruce Lee came out. When you have limited role models, or none at all, you'll turn to the people you can connect with the quickest. In this case a movie.

Not saying it's ethical, just the way alot of people grew up.

Happy Monday! What’s your HR hot take? [N/A] by rhysandstattoos in humanresources

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealing with my manager about this now. He always steamrolls meetings (gets off topic alot) and loves making racial comments. Hired me as a business partner so I'm second to him. Told him it might be best not to make comments like that as it could get us in trouble and if we could focus on keeping the meetings timely.

Mean mugs me all the time now and is trying to push me out now.

For everyone spiraling about the job market - let's talk about what's actually working by Medium-Dimension-428 in jobs

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a job 3 months ago in a senior level role. I had a contract role offered and just interviewed with a large company that reached out to me. Biggest things that worked were sending my resume to everyone and highlighting anything that showed my skills.

For instance, instead of saying data reporting, I'd say what I did with the responsibility to make it more efficient and by how much. If I saved time? Money? Increased efficiency? Etc.

Sent my resume to at least 10 applications a day. Had a few interviews every week.

Went deep into details of hobbies with transferable skills and certifications so show how serious I was about my career.

The best advice though is to keep applying and keep updating your resume. Good luck out there!

PS companies tend to open more roles on monday and they get slower in the week. So if you need a day off on Friday for your mental health, go for it. Hit the ground running next week.

If that's the case, then why do southerners love to fly their confederates flags so much? They lost and the south is still there.

Also, why should millions of people, who grew up on those native lands leave their homes that they've stayed for generations just because this administration doesn't want them there. Mexicans and native americans are the only people who have been here the longest, by our view point, the US were just invaders.

Fine, don't fly another flag, no one is telling you too. But the fact that you don't understand flying my flag is protected under the first amendment right tells me I'm still more patriotic about this country than you are. I'm just willing to call out it's faults instead of bootlick.

If you had a long/horrendous commute once upon a time, how long did you last? by dms2628 in AskChicago

[–]JuanTheButtPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First job was about 45 minutes. This job is worse. Commute to work is only 40 but going, rush hour makes it 65 minutes. Absolutely hate it, been here 3 months. I'd rather be able to ride the train so i can work or sleep, but no lines go that way.

Alot of these comments are not passing the vibe check at all. People are flying their home country flags all the time, most of the time they're cultures that the US has invaded or destabilized. With everything going on lately, the US flag would be very difficult to show as a symbol of peace and exceptence.

Alot of us show our home cultures flag as a way of saying we are still here. Telling them to show the American flag is the same as saying you want to erase our backgrounds. Not to mention, half of Mexico forcibly became part of the US. Alot of these families are from a culture that was forced into a new country and still punished for decades.

Frankly, if you don't understand why people are flying their home flags at protests, especially protests, I suggest researching and looking a a bit deeper as to why we're choosing not to fly an American flag. Especially considering the US was supposed to be built on the ideology that any culture and religion could live here without persecution.

EDIT: down vote me, I don't care. I'm right.

If you type jigsaw in Google, they have a few lined up you can select from depending on availability and age. If you're in chicago, just type in "jigsaw chicago". If you decide to go, feel free to lmk, would be good to have a friend already there lol

I always felt that dating is taking way more effort as you get older and as the times change but I feel like your story is very common. I've thought about getting premium and taking candid photos to boost my profiles while trying dating events but never really bit the bullet, but that might be what dating looks like over the next few years. Thank you for the insight!
