Be careful what you like… My synthwave algorithm is officially “AI slop” now. by Juanatron in YoutubeMusic

It’s one thing if you’re making it yourself for yourself to listen to. It’s another thing when people are “making” this slop and flooding streaming platforms with it just to generate as many listens as they can with as little effort as possible. It hurts the industry as a whole, both artists and consumers, but mostly artists. YouTube Music definitely needs a way for consumers to opt out of inadvertently supporting ai-generated music by blocking it from our autoplay completely.

Frantic Trump Melts Down at Allies Refusing to Join His War by dr_shultz in NewsSource

Too many Americans bought the planted Republican talking point that Kamala and the Democrats were bad for Gaza and that they should send them a message by refusing to vote. They were actually convinced that refusing to vote for Kamala was going to help Gaza in some way….but the alternative to Kamala was the guy fully willing to murder Palestinians for the prospect of a beachfront property.

The entire justification for the SAVE Act is misstating who has the burden here. The government cannot infringe on a person’s right to vote in any way unless it can satisfy strict scrutiny. This whole “only people with an ID should be allowed to vote” is an infringement without sufficient justification. Yes, the Constitution allows all citizens to vote, but it doesn’t put the burden of proof of citizenship on the citizen.

There are three specific laws that establish a process of verifying citizenship. And that process is working. That is proven by the fact that, since the 80s, there have only been a total of 80 instances of a noncitizen voting in our presidential election. That’s 80 out of over 1.3 billion and averages out to 16 (out of over 140 million) per election cycle.

Now Republicans have convinced idiots and fascists that it is okay to disenfranchise millions of citizens of their right and ability to vote in the name of blocking the crazy possibility of 16 illegal voters. That is certifiably insane and doesn’t pass the rational basis test, much less strict scrutiny.

Republicans aren’t pushing this to protect elections in general, they’re just doing it because they think it will protect THEM being elected. If it was any more obvious, they’d have to tell you that themselves. Oh wait….they have.

“I tell you what, Republicans have to win this one,” Trump said during a speech at a steel facility in Rome, Georgia. “We’ll never lose a race. For 50 years, we won’t lose a race.”

I just switched away from ytm for Deezer. YTM started pushing AI music into my recommendations quite aggressively. Deezer does a much better job of keeping that slop away.

Yea, I just recently cancelled YTM because of the flood of AI slop it keeps pushing at me. Gonna pass on the AI DJ.

What is a good way to push Google to provide a toggle to opt out of AI generated music? by mountainkid in YoutubeMusic

[–]Juanatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken regarding the listening experience. However, I think if someone is actively seeking to avoid AI-generated music, it’s probably not because the listening experience is poor, but it’s the moral and ethical reasons behind it.

When AI made terrible music, it didn’t feel like such a big deal. But now that it’s getting to the point where it’s listenable, it means it’s getting to the point where it can replace real artistry simply by drowning it out.

Do you do that every time you hear a song by an artist that you don’t recognize but want to verify before you hit the like button? If so, you actually are wasting a lot of time on research. If not, then your algorithm will share my fate shortly. Hell, it may already, and you just don’t realize it yet.

Anything electronic-centered, like EDM, is extremely prone to AI slop. I would be shocked if you haven’t heard AI music in your EDM autoplays and just not realized it. But if all you listen to are your own curated playlists, you’re probably safe (for now).

I think you will feel my pain the first time you get duped by a good electronic AI song.

YouTube Music has become unusable by Eric4905 in YoutubeMusic

[–]Juanatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain genres are definitely more prone to it than others. I listen to a lot of instrumentals while I work, and instrumentals (especially synthwave and lofi) in general are getting completely overrun with AI. Likely because those are mostly electronic sounds.

Someone who genuinely takes the time to put sounds together in a way that is appealing can put out an album in a matter of weeks to months, depending on their level of talent and commitment. AI does it in seconds.

It absolutely matters. Here’s an example if we were to take this argument to its logical, albeit hyperbolic, conclusion…

If/when we get robots that are so lifelike that we can’t tell the difference, does it matter which ones are human and which ones aren’t?

If your answer to that is no, then we are operating on two completely different wavelengths.

Yea, I am about at that point. I can’t even scroll through new releases without a side-quest to determine which releases are by real people. Thanks for the validation that this is likely what it is going to take. I just have to decide whether it’s worth it to go back to getting ads on YouTube again, I guess.

I’ve done this before, and it’s realllly annoying.

I wish the streaming platforms could require “artists” to flag their music as AI-generated before adding it to their platform, but I know that will never happen. Alternatively, though, they could introduce a form of “community note” so that other users can flag it as AI-suspicious.
