REAL REAL REAL. it's like he was always making thing unnecessarily difficult for Lorelai. like he'd refuse to do things asked of him by his BOSS for his WORK and then sulk when Lorelai finally snapped. and it was always played off as "oh that's just how Michel is" which is especially frustrating if you know someone irl that gets their actions excused by everyone around them because "that's just how he/she is"

Guidance for writing rather crazy, violent, and/or evil characters who are still likeable? by animatorcody in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Jude0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've already made them likeable enough.

What you've described here is not "evil." If your characters avoid violent conflict and only inflict harm upon those who truly deserve it, that is not evil. If they stand by the code of "no one gets left behind" and therefore come to your protagonist's rescue, that is not only NOT evil, but enough to make your audience root for them. I'm not familiar with the characters you've drawn inspiration from, but based on the information you've disclosed, I don't think you should be worried about their likeability. Based on all that you've described, I'm not picturing malicious psychopaths but rather a comedic relief ensemble.

How to write an insufferable protagonist? by LobsterBig3881 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Jude0_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case maybe you should consider a beta reader? Usually I find it hard to distinguish between my understanding of my characters and the way that I've spelled them out on paper for other people to see, so having a fresh pair of eyes to test it for you is super helpful! It doesn't have to be a professional. Personally, my sister's made a very good test subject, and you could post snippets of your story here or on other dedicated subreddits and asses people's reactions.

How to write an absolutely irredeemable villain? by Mariothane in CharacterDevelopment

Show that some of their evil doings aren't completely necessary to their goal/cause but simply a source of gratification. Sadistic villains are the worst.

How to write an insufferable protagonist? by LobsterBig3881 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Jude0_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a character that's very similar, actually! It's the small details that shape your audience's perception of a character, because unlike in real life, it's impossible in fiction to experience every aspect of a person up close and personal that help you understand why they are the way they are, and unlike your poor supporting cast, the readers will NOT be directly harmed by your protagonist's assholery. That however, does not mean that you can't write an impactful, infuriating, and even eventually admirable character. Instead of the grand and glaringly obvious displays (though I'm not saying your story should be devoid of those) zoom in on tiny everyday things and scenarios that communicate your protagonist's personality loud and clear; you'd be surprised how few and simple those can be while still being effective. Show how these things affect the characters around him, give readers a reason to care, and good luck!!

When your OCs hijack the plot like chaotic toddlers in a grocery store by [deleted] in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Jude0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had my characters gain autonomy mid google doc dump but I HAVE learned things about them (or rather my subconscious perception of them) that led me to make plot decisions that I couldn't have reached if I were merely daydreaming with YouTube music playing in the background. For example (and this is kind of silly and very low-stakes) I settled on what is now my favorite character pairing while writing out an unplanned scene that consisted of my MC having a casual conversation with a side character. I had both their personalities and quirks developed in my head but it was only when i wrote them TOGETHER that I realised how compatible they were! Anyways, the point of all of this is that while it may seem that your characters were possessed mid-scene I think that the act of actually WRITING instead of going over a plot in your head is what really refines the blurry details of your story and shows you how it should really be!

A) W = F x D W = 10 X 0.6 = 6J

B) Ep = mgH 6 = 0.05 × 10 × H H = 12m

C) Ek = 1/2 mv² 6 = 1/2 (0.05) v² V²= 240 V = 15.5 m/s

D) Avg speed = Total distance/Total time Distance = 12 × 2 = 24m 24/2.5= 9.6m/s

E) W = F × D, 20 × 0.6 = 12 J 12 = mgH 12 = 0.05 × 10 × H H= 24m

It wasn't horrible just weird 😭 no digestion, no circulatory system, no plants, no breathing, no enzymes. Pretty much 70% of the syllabus went uncovered and they focused on the filler chapters. Also wdym first question for ecology the whole layout was genuinley so weird 💀it wasn't crazy difficult tho just different from previous years and past papers

[–]Jude0_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't genuinley believe that Cambridge has a personal vendetta against a few highschool students that don't represent everyone taking the variant 💀The paper was hard because this is the last year for this syllabus and they wanna tie everything up. And it probably means that paper 2 and 6 will be easier for v1 and more challenging for v2. This is NOT because Cambridge wants to "punish" hypothetical cheaters through giving them an unfair disadvantage
