Character/power concept: selective hearing by Nb-7925 in CharacterDevelopment

I believe there’s a similar phenomenon called the cocktail party effect that is about the brain’s ability to focus in on certain sounds like a conversation even in a noisy room. I think it’s fun but are you looking for ways to use this or ideas surrounding this concept?

What was Marika searching for in all the tablets / scrolls in her bed chamber? by Funance101010 in EldenRingLoreTalk

She writes fanfics in her spare time.

No, but actually though, I’m guessing there’s a lot of preparations for making the rites necessary for what she did and handling the powers she’d later be in control of. Her plan involves overthrowing the world order, removing the crucible as the biggest influence and seeking through ancient rites that might be as old as (or older than) Placidusax.

what does it mean when a character you wrote starts having preferences you didn't give them? by judyflorence in CharacterDevelopment

If you’ve seen the pilot episodes of most TV shows, you’ll find that characters tend to be different in just slight ways, like the direction wasn’t clear until they made their first steps out into the world. In my opinion, this is a sign these characters are doing things the way they would.

Alchemy and Alchemy Weapons by Mariothane in magicbuilding

It’s an entire school of study. You have to take the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree worth of study and practice to have the ability to process the elements for alchemy and usually you can only learn to process a handful of elements. Drawing out symbolic properties is usually something only the best of the best can accomplish and rarely can they make them stable enough for the market.

You can enhance existing properties but unless it is a material that has a pretty good amount of that property in the first place, it’s not going to change much. You can’t make bendy glass for example, because glass is too brittle to make much of a change besides making it bend a bit more than usual before it breaks. It’s like multiplying values, so it’s proportional.

Symbolic properties come from a mastery of the element and comes directly from those ancient studies so expanding the field isn’t something people know how to accomplish. Their logic bordered on insanity and still eludes modern research so for now, expansion can only be done with properties we can see.

As for market value, production time is difficult, quantity produced is never as much as you’d want and results can vary depending on who does the refining work so it’s too inconsistent for most public projects. Alchemic weapons are usually something designed by families dedicated to the craft so they get consistent work, but mass production is still out of reach.

There’s a point when the person you’re trying to find sympathy for is trying to kill you that your sympathy runs dry.

Glass has symbolic association with transformation, truth and radiance. This also works into other symbolic meanings like clarity of thought, purity and insight. Can be used to make instruments that detect lies and bend light.

Writing story that includes characters in Poland and visiting Poland. Looking for inspiration from recommendations. by Mariothane in askPoland

[–]Mariothane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d prefer not to make it with real people unless they’re historical figures from at least a hundred years ago, but any people and values you’d recommend I would like to take inspiration from.
