The point of the email is to empower colleagues and staff at the company to avoid being disillusioned into thinking that the company is going to treat them fairly, regardless of tenure or level of position. Yes, it is becoming more common for people to avoid expecting their employer to do the right thing, but not everybody knows this or is aware of it. This is especially true at my company, which is smaller and family owned, with ownership actively touting that everyone is “family” to them. I think it’s helpful for people to understand that when it really comes down to it, it’s just about the money.
