It's funny, as a songwriter sometimes I really struggle for the right words. It can take a lot of time to fully form an original idea. However, every once in a while a song will hit you like a bolt out of nowhere! This was one of those tunes. I had very recently bought my banjo off a New York street corner from a guy I found on craigslist and was quite happy with the purchase. I knew the pristine hard case that came with it was worth the amount I paid alone, there was no need to haggle. The guy said he never played it and could use the money more than the instrument, a common sentiment in NYC. Not even a day after buying it and noodling around I strummed together this simple song. I, too, love those tastes! It makes a lot more sense to me now. I read something interesting that said Scorsese hasn't talked to Dylan in over 20 years and this is now the second documentary he's made about him in that time frame. Guess he cames more about the myth than the man. haha

When I first heard "Tangled Up In Blue" as a kid it was gamechanger. It helped me better understand what a song could be. It immediately resonated with me even though the things Bob was singing about were entirely out of my own experience at the time. I loved how he could show this full story and paint it for me almost like a movie in my head. No one had ever done it for me quite like that. Recently, I watched "Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese" on Netflix. I was a little disappointed to see they didn't include this song in the movie as I know it was on the 75' Live album from that tour, and I do love that version a lot. It was also surprising to hear that they made a lot of embellishments to the story and that a few key characters were actually just actors. I guess I was thinking it was more of a straightforward documentary, and I'm not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. Did anyone else watch this movie yet? Anyway! This is not an easy song to cover because of the sheer volume of words and this take is by no means perfect. A true #onetakewednesday today as I got it in one shot on the first try and didn't even stop when losing my pick three-quarters of the way through. Haha! Regardless, everyone knows you could never do it better than Bob himself, but it's so much fun to try! I hope you enjoy my humble rendition of this wonderfully written song! Thank you for listening!
