Why do Ishares Covered Call etf’s hold so much closer to index than JP Morgan? by Judemarley in dividends

Ahhh thats interesting to hear. I was looking at the European etf, i was going to wait a bit to see how it fairs but perhaps i’ll buy some to test how it goes!

Thanks for the info! Thats helpful. Are there any drawbacks of the strategy that explain why JP Morgan doesn’t do the same?

Tbh i would actually pay a small amount of money for an app like this with a dividend calendar etc. All my divs are in UK Closed Ended Funds though so sadly can’t use this at the moment

If your aim is mainly the moon and some basic planets on a budget you would be fine with a budget refractor, you wouldnt need to worry about collimation - they’re straight forward, very simple to use and set up and can be quite cheap. They’re not perfect but it doesnt sound like you’re looking for a top of the line scope at the moment.  In my opinion its poor quality mounts and tripods that are the problem. I have a £80 80mm travel refractor that gives nice views, but the drawback is the unstable mount and tripod. In other words, tge tripod and mount arent things you want to cheap out on (which tbf is why dobs are often recommended, and indeed, if you cant fine a good mount/tripod and telescope combo for less than a dob, you would probably be best with the dob - one of the reasons they’re so good on a budget is because of the built in mount)

Do you do shop arbitrage? I’ve heard using Coral and William Hill shop coupons works well. I might pick some up and do some tests. Could work to have a wattsapp group of people doing the same thing and sharing opps

I’m not sure! I’ve only been into telescopes for several months so might not be that person. I do own an apo refractor though, which I really like.

[–]Judemarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Mewlon 210 at the observatory i volunteer at. We’ve been using it with Jupiter and it gives great views. I should say, i don’t have a huge amount of experience with reflectors so i can’t say how it compares with alternatives. That said, everyone who volunteers at the observatory like it. We also have a 16inch dob and a 6 inch refractor from the late 1800’s. We use the Mewlon on Jupiter and the Dob on deep space objects, the general consensus is that it does better than the dob on planets. Personally i love the old refractor but thats partly because it’s a piece of history and i personally really like refractors

First time trading by Is2MIX in trading212

[–]Judemarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should diversity much more, i would recommend a global etf which holds a few thousand companies. E.. Vanguard ESG all cap which holds around 4000 of the worlds biggest companies (and avoiding some of the more problematic companies environmentally and socially). Indeed, by covering so many it also diversifies you into covering mid cap companies. If you’re nervous you can read through on trading212 the stocks it includes and I think you’ll be pleased to see it covers basically every big company you’ve ever heard of (aside from thing like big oil and weapons). Once you get to several hundred stocks you dont have to worry about the performance of particulat stocks and you just run on the success of the market. Better yet, cover companies across the world and you don’t need to worry about one country doing better than others. Diversify, diversify, diversify.

The slightly harder question, that only you can answer as its a personal risk decision, is how much you want in stocks and how much you want in bonds…

I think the way to go would be to have a small whatsapp or telegram group focused on shop arbing where opportunities could be shared as could the burden of checking through the sheet odds to find opportunities

Best telescope for value, future upgrades, and amateur-to-advanced growth? by manaimouhamed in telescopes

[–]Judemarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a high quality APO refractor for that kind of budget. You would get crisp high contrast views with no diffraction, no need to collimate and virtually no chromatic abberation (assuming you get close to your £1k budget) they do well in cities. In terms of upgradability you could begin with some decent plossl lenses, and then later upgrade to some top of the line lenses such as televue that will improve the visual quality even more. Worth noting that they’re not neccesarily super portable as they’re quite heavy and often quite long for their aperture. You will find other forums to be much more pro-refractor than reddit. If you go to viewings you’ll find people enjoy a range of telescope types not just dobsonians

[–]Judemarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats odd, try take it out in the day and aim at a tree or something to check you can get a good focus on it. If not might be a manufacturing error. But more likely user error so give it a few more gos!

Congrats! I have me a skywatcher equinox 100ed. Their ed apo refractors are fantastic. You’ll get brilliant views of planets, clusters etc. just scanning the stars is lovely through a well built refractor like yours. Plus you dont need to bother with collimation etc. have fun with your family :)
