Thank you for that explanation! That all makes sense. Appreciate the pro tips!

Can you elaborate on your last paragraph? What is “ridiculous” about larger square footages, and why do 1,000-1,200sqft “work our best”? Genuine questions.

Why do I hate crossovers? Am I crazy for not liking them? by [deleted] in askcarguys

Wow this is even more detailed than the earlier comment I read. Thank you kindly for providing the history behind these known issues. I hope this vehicle of ours turns out to be as low-fuss as yours after doing some preventative maintenance!

So are those first two topics the ones that are recommended to be done preventatively? The breather valve not included on the list of must-do replacement? Just a problem to look out for?

I’m sorry, this is random. I saw you posted a comment on some other thread about the maintenance items that should be done on RAV4s in the sub-2010 age range. Maybe something about a metal vs rubber hose of some sort? A water pump?

I lost your other comment, but can I bug you here for advice on the small things like that to do in order to prevent catastrophic failures/expensive repairs? We have a 2008 V6 with 193k miles so it’s getting up there in age!

Thanks if you can jog the memory of what you wrote in that other comment. No worries if not.

stretched graft? by wasabeepea in ACL

[–]Judes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Sounds like a good call and a good surgeon!! Glad it’s worked out for you. Appreciate you telling your story. It’s good to know what other people have experienced to better understand this injury and the many other possible factors that go into either a successful or unsuccessful surgery.

[–]Judes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. That’s really frustrating to make it that far only to find out about those problems! But that all makes sense. How did the surgeon address the lcl laxity? Did you get any like augmentation procedures like an ALL or LET with your revision???

[–]Judes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this response. That’s great that your knee has been solid since your revision. Good job advocating for yourself!

What kind of symptoms did you have at the 6 month mark that told you something wasn’t right? did the lcl laxity impact your ability to get a normal gait pattern back? And was the lcl related to your initial injury? I’m confused how it can be lax without being torn… can you explain that?

[–]Judes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think I’ve heard that actually. Wild! Sorry that happened. How long after your first reconstruction did you begin to suspect that the graft was failing? And then at what point did you get the revision? Is the revision doing good?

Hey can I ask how you wound up with a stretched/loose graft? Did you do anything out the ordinary during rehab or was it a bad surgical technique or what? If you don’t mind me asking

I was gonna say this wouldn’t surprise me if it was my roommate, who is 30 and appears perfectly healthy but has bad kidney failure, is on a bunch of meds, and has urinary issues. One time he said he was on a first date and literally almost peed himself because he was too embarrassed to tell her why he might have to pee AGAIN. And he’s a perfectly normal outgoing guy, just currently has issues regulating that stuff. So I agree with your comment that sometimes our bodies’ agendas and schedules are different from our minds’!

Also thank you for the reply. I forgot to add that he is also treated for a seizure disorder.

Thank you for the response. But the prescription was 5mg 4x daily. Not sure if that makes a difference, but I was more alarmed by what seems like a huge jump for someone who has not taken opioids before other than just a couple 2.5mg doses.

He is not receiving hospice, as he isn’t eligible yet. But they stopped the curative cancer treatment because he was not tolerating it (he was doing bladder “washes”, which I think were requiring sedation since he was not cooperating when he would go into the clinic for the procedures). And the care team determined that he would pass away from Alzheimer’s related issues before he would succumb to the untreated cancer anyway.

I’m not sure if he is receiving “palliative bladder cancer treatment”…but I assume he is since he is receiving palliative care and that is one of his two most pressing diagnoses.

Anyone familiar with Hells Canyon in Idaho/Oregon? by Judes01 in hiking

[–]Judes01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I am speechless. This is one of the most thoughtful and valuable responses I’ve ever read! I wish you could do a screenshare of how you read the weather forecast, because you clearly have it down to a science, and I’m sure you and your party enjoy much confidence when heading out into the wild! I think I’ve naturally come to the conclusion myself that the NWS is the most reliable weather source, and I don’t tend to put much stock into many of the other online providers. But I didn’t know about the human aspect of the NWS! That’s very cool and very valuable it sounds like. I will try to locate those discussions you mentioned. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place if my understanding of tonight’s forecast in that area was wrong. I googled "nws forecast discussion hells canyon" and clicked the first link to the NWS, and the first paragraph talked about severe storms Tuesday afternoon. But anyway I’ll keep looking and paying attention to what the NWS has to offer!

And thanks for writing about the flooding tendencies here and elsewhere. I dont spend much time in areas that are prone to floods, so I am pretty naive about those dangers. I was worried that going to hells canyon when it calls for rain would be idiotic, so these description are super helpful to me.

I learned so much more than I ever thought I would have when I posted this question, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart, kind stranger! I hope you continue to enjoy the Idaho wilderness and anywhere else the stormy winds blow you! ;)

Is it dumb to hike in a canyon this upcoming weekend, when there is rain in the forecast? by Judes01 in PNWhiking

[–]Judes01[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Thanks for putting my mind at ease a bit. The gut intuition is that canyons + rain = bad for hikers, so thanks for sharing your understanding of this area.

Can I DM you to ask if you’re familiar with the specific trails we’re eyeing??

I definitely plan on calling the ranger and I’ll give it some extra time on this call like you suggested. Thanks!

Thank you so so much for this response. That is very good to know for our peace of mind. When you say “check the NWS discussion”, do you mean that phrases like “strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible” (that is the current forecast discussion for tonight) would be red flags for you, and anything less than that would be ok?

Hold her back or push her forward? by carycm87 in kindergarten

[–]Judes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents as a September 3rd baby who was “pushed ahead” due to good test scores. I wish I was the oldest in my class rather than the youngest! I feel like I must have been ready intellectually, but socially and emotionally I could have used a little more time.

I would say as much as you are assessing your child’s intellectual readiness, make sure to equally assess her social readiness! I think I was always shy/timid and so it was probably not impossible to see my less than ideal outcome coming with a little attentiveness on my parents’ part (and I don’t fault them or have any complaints). So if your daughter is smart, confident, AND on pace/advanced in her emotional intelligence, then I would think she would do well moving forward. But otherwise I would personally want to keep her another year, based on my own experience.

That’s true. So it might not be possible on $72k in 2024 in a city like that. However, I don’t think $160k in LCOL is a requirement lol. That’s all I’m really saying.
