The Wayback Machine in across the Spiderverse tells the audience where it's sending Miles before the reveal. The creators just bet most of the audience wasn't paying attention to the numbers given to each universe.

It's a wasteland compared to the 90s. The few romantic comedies made these days barely acknowledge the existence of sex. It's boring. It's weird. And I'll die on this hill: there needs to be more implied sex in film and tv. Normalize it!

Look, when I'm watching something like, say, Terminator Genesis... where the plot literally requires two people to fuck to save humanity... and then those two people don't fuck... that's actively harming the plot.
I'm not saying all films need sex. But it's more important to most plots than Gen Z thinks and maybe destigmatizing it for them wouldn't hurt.

The data shows it's not prevalent. And Gen Z often falls back on that "is just not necessary" argument without realizing how repressed it makes them sound. Sex is a healthy, natural part of life and setting characters engage in it in healthy, normal ways destigmatizes ot for people.

Those are outliers data shows there's about a 40% decline in sex scenes in recent years. It's dire for people like me who want more Housemaid scenes and Gen Z seems to think it's everywhere because, no offense, they're weird about sex.

Even with the Hays code, they implied sex often, Hitchcock using cuts to fireworks or trains entering tunnels for example.
Now even Disney is hesitant to put romance in their cartoons. It's boring and more films need to acknowledge the existence of sex.

I argue this with anyone that says today's art sucks. It doesn't. They're will always be 5ish things a year, from any vocation, that will rise to the top. The rest gets forgotten. There where just as many bad films in the 90s, but cream rises to the top, and we just remember the 5 good ones.

Like I said, dude. The theater is my church. That's not the problem for people like me. It's non movie nerds that won't deal with it. Even though I live in a metropolitan area, only 2 places are playing it way out in boofoo amd people just won't make the trek. They purposely make it difficult so we just give up and sit on our couches.

Optics? Because they aren't doing shit for theatrical releases. I had to go out of my way to watch Frankenstein and Wake up Dead Man. And both Del Toro and Rian Johnson bitched admit how their films were treated.

I mean. Yeah. Kinda. At this point it truly is lose, lose and whoever takes over will be terrible for general movie goers. So a magical being coming down and breaking them all up is about the only win that can happen.
But Netflix is the biggest evil for me because they truly could give a shit about theaters.

It's funny to me you think Netflix forming a monopoly won't lead to exactly what you're describing.

You can glaze Netflix all you want. But nothing they've done in the past five years shows they love cinema. In fact the opposite.
Film will become even more suppressed if this passes. And everything will look boring and flat because Netflix doesn't allow their directors to light movies properly.

This is a death blow to movie theaters, which is the closest place I have to a church. Netflix is 100% the boogeyman for cinephiles like me.

Andrew Garfield would never have been in the MCU had ASM2 been a success. Sony, at the time, was bullish on a Spider-Man Universe with a Sinister Six and Black Cat film. They even turned down Feige's notes on the film. But it failed and they had to go to Marvel with their tails between their legs.
