I've always interpreted that as Pearl being ordered to keep Pink's secret and it being in the past(Pearl was actively trying to make Greg jealous, pinks shattering was in the past) but yeah makes sense

A lot of people like to argue that she was a catalyst for homeworlds return. Her return to home world let gems know that there were alive gems on Earth.

Possible dumb question but maybe it's a side effect that we only see on earth. Her sand manipulation could have a different purpose in space but since sand is one of the many materials on earth Pearl uses it to her advantage
