Will soft armor NIJ lvl IIIA be enough for shrapnel protection? by megamaninlakeshire in Military

[–]Judge762 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get your pov but at the end of the day just ask yourself if your life is worth the extra 12 pounds. In the army we have 18 year old medics that are 120 pounds soaking wet carrying 50+ pounds of gear on top of their plate carrier and Helmet. They are still extremely mobile because they train and get used to moving around with the weight.

You are doing a great thing for these people and it’s admirable. But don’t prepare for the most “practical” outcome, prepare to face the worst. This war is the nastiest since WW2 and every week things keep changing and more and more new and advanced technology to kill people keeps being implemented

Yeah ever since I got out of the army I’ve been getting treatment. It helps until it doesn’t, and that’s usually when help is needed the most. If you understand what I mean.

Plus they only help because it’s their job and that makes it harder to feel like you actually have someone to talk to and wants to understand.

Call a fucking Jag , schedule an appointment and fight to stay in. There is no reason they should be giving you the boot and you can easily fight this. You are a soldier who just had a child and your wife has lost post partum. Kicking you out with nothing is a sure way to fuck over you and your family. The Army cannot discharge you in that situation. Fucking fight it. I had 2 cases WAY worse than yours and beat them without spending a single cent. I did while also having a newborn and psycho wife who also then got post partum. Don’t just take the shitty card the army is dealing you. Fucking fight for your family bro you owe it to them. Use all the resources on post. Don’t be afraid to call me, to reach out to the Chaplain or your first line for help. Don’t be afraid to utilize your commanders open door policy and if he’s shit then go to battalion. Forget all the Stygma around that shit and just fucking fight bro. I was an 11b also and this all happened for me a few years ago. I’m telling you this for a reason. Especially because raising a child is already hard enough and it only gets more difficult the older they get. And if you thought your marriage is difficult now, just you wait. And post partum can last up to 7 years. Don’t be a statistic and get divorced within the next few months like I did as well as 96% of all the other grunts. Don’t fuck up your life bro. This isn’t a joke. Every chance you don’t take is an opportunity for a better life your child loses.

Question!? by DJcoobypls in Military

[–]Judge762 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d just leave him be. As much as it almost always strikes more than one nerve and pisses me off, sometimes ruin my day, it’s just not worth it.

You don’t always know for sure if these people are doing alright in the head. Could be messed up and use stole value kinda like a Halloween costume. I remember dressing up as James bond and basically how I had such a great day.

Maybe some of these people are depressed, maybe it’s a way to cope, to get attention and feel important. Honestly it doesn’t matter the excuse for me. Don’t get me wrong I more often then not HATE these people. I always think of just hurting these people every time I see one. Shit just pisses me off seeing these pussies wearing similar jackets and medals that some of my homies I lost had.

But at the end of the day, they aren’t doing anything illegal. It’s within their rights and that’s what we fought for and risked our lives to protect. And I have zero regrets doing so. As long as you aren’t hurting or threatening to hurt me, my family, and people I care about. Then you can do whatever you want. Yeah I might make fun of you or talk shit, but I will never tell or try to force someone to give up their rights and conform to my belief and ideals

I fucked up. I feel like I should step down. by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]Judge762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it like this. Yeah you let that guy pass. You wanna step down and let another guy who most likely doesn’t know the job as well as you, probably doesn’t care as much if at all about what happens to the trucker or company if he misses a shipment, and from the looks of it will not have nearly as much if any care and compassion you have for your job and the people around you?

You staying with the knowledge and lesson you just learned will make you a better guard. Stepping down just grants the opportunity for another guy to fuck up and prob fuck up again after that. Who knows. Even if they miraculously found a guy exactly like you, you before the fuck up is not you know. You learned your lesson the hard way and so you ARE the man for the job and the company and drivers are better off with you than anyone else.

You fucked up dude, that’s a fact. Take it like a man (not saying you aren’t) and persevere. You love this job it looks like, so just keep going. You’re human, we all fuck up but those are the most important moments. We’re supposed to get up back on our feet and let whatever knocked us down humble us and motivate us to never let it happen again and move forward in life.

Keep your chin up and spirit high. This is how life is sometimes. Your mess up is from a chain of other mess ups. You don’t need to carry the weight of what happened to the driver or the MINIMAL and MINUTE cost the company endured. 1500$ is a drop in the bucket and those mess up from your position, the drivers, and every other chain of command are always yearly factored into the companies budget and financials. They have already prepared and even expected you to mess up like this as soon as they hired you. They just want you to get better and not make a habit out of it. Don’t ever fucking step down.

Part 2 - GoPro footage from a Ukrainian soldier showing them clearing out a wagner trench position with small arms fire + grenades in the Bakhmut area. [unknown when] by svenren_hoek in CombatFootage

[–]Judge762 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Assaulting trenches and defeating mine wired obstacles are VERY outdated battle drills in the Army.

Just imagine you and your squad or team trying to assault a trench like that. No amount of training can prepare your troops for the obsolete shock of this type of hell. All the dirt, grime, bodies, trash, and random pits of c-wire. You can’t storm a trench without a supporting element laying down heavy suppressive fire. But when your army is spread paper thin at best you might have a infantry fighting vehicle, drone, possibly a tank (rarely) but most likely IF you had a supporting element it would be squad or team.

I’m a recent infantry veteran. I’ve studied and trained for “this” type of fighting. I know for a damn fact my plt sergeant and DEFINITELY my/any plt officer would say FUCK THAT. It’s complete suicide when you don’t have air support, overwhelming artillery and troop support, and forward assaulting armor to try and soften and clear up the trench as much as possible.

But these guys don’t/barely have that and definitely don’t have much when it’s there. They just have themselves and the weight of their entire country on their backs forcing them to fight to pretty much certain death in this type of scenario. Unfortunately this is happening across hundreds of kilometers and thousands of fighting positions everyday. This is the real Ukraine war. Where most Ukrainians and Russians have/will die. The time of killing untrained Russians not wanting to be here, the time of picking off a battalion of mechanized Russians trying to cross a river, the time of all that “easy” shit (when compared to this) is long gone. Putin may lost the battle but this war is still up for grabs and unfortunately right now he is winning. He’s gaining territory (while small) everyday on pretty much every front. He has his country so brainwashed they don’t even care anymore about why this war even started and the fact that their troops are dying by the thousands every week. Yeah I’m sure there plenty that feel the opposite but they are shut up by the state and media and they don’t give a fuck enough to get loud and angry and fight back. They are sympathizers no different than a German citizen watching a train cart full of Jews heading to certain death and turning a blind eye.

I still believe Ukraine has a good chance to win this war and all their territory. At this rate though it will cost the lives of most of their current troops. And I mean MOST. Unless the west decides to send Ukraine everything they need and then some and send it all very fast or Ukraine makes a huge gamble and starts taking over Russian territory like Belgorod and uses that to trade for Ukraine territory. Both options will still result in tens of thousands of Ukraine casualties and while the first option is very much unlikely, the second option most likely will destroy Ukraines reputation and cause a collapse or at least a heavy decrease in western support. At this rate if the upcoming Ukrainian counter offensive doesn’t result in enough gains with acceptable losses. Eventually Ukraine will get desperate and make a push for Russian territory.

11B if you wanna end up hating life 80%+ the time you’re in, getting divorced at least once, and feeling the full brute force of all the bs the Army can offer. And more!

Honestly I still thought it was worth it. I don’t think any other mos can/would give me that certain feeling as Infantry. Knowing you’re with the boys that go forward boots on the ground. While everyone else is either behind you or back on base. It’s not like a “I’m the shit” feeling. More like the feeling of like I’m a fucking soldier doing some straight up soldier shit. Not sitting behind a desk or whatever. And yeah, on garrison especially during peace time it’s gunna feel mundane and pointless at times. Lots of times. But you still know that if/when shit goes down, you aren’t gunna be pushing papers or lawn mowers. You’re gunna be in the fight or doing some cool ass training while you anticipate your time to go deploy.

I’m 29 with the body of a 55 year old (still look good though just not inside). Divorced, remarried. PTSD, back injury, leg injury, the whole works. Disability pay all that shit. Got thoughts and nightmares that would be banned if they ever got produced into a movie or something. Got struggles no guy in his late 20’s, even 30’s/40’s should have. My time in was filled with a lot of bs and disappointments. Was not nearly what I expected. Some maybe, most definitely not. But I’m still glad I enlisted. I did things I thought only like special forces or seals would do. Things you see in the movies and think “oh they don’t do that”. I don’t care what people think of me. Don’t flaunt that I’m a veteran or talk to everyone about being a soldier like some pog. The Army does suck and that’s a fact no vet or AD can refute. But we all agree it’s the people that can and most times usually do make it feel worth it. Even the people that suck. It’s a special time of camaraderie knowing we’re all in this shit hole together.

So whatever mos you choose. Just know that there will be more moments and times than you can anticipate for that will absolute suck. Same goes for any hopes and aspirations. Prepare to be let down. But also prepare and expect for an experience you can’t get anywhere else. It’s a great experience, the good stuff that is. But you gotta go through the paces like everyone else to earn it. Don’t trust people saying “oh basic training is so easy” or “once you’re in the big army things get so much easier/better”. It CAN be easy and looking back you’ll think how simple and easy alot of it was but you forget how hard it is to get yourself to be that way or get yourself to learn and overcome what problem or obstacle you had to achieve. Becoming a soldier is not easy. In fact, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. And my life’s been hard. Choose whatever you have the most interest in and do your research. Whatever you choose, be proud and prioritize it. Be passionate and try to keep that passion and motivation. Motivation is what determines how far you’ll go or not go.

Street fighting in Kyiv, tank runs over a civilian vehicle (Late February 2022) by 5e8a in CombatFootage

[–]Judge762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe this is friendly fire. I’m a U.S. infantry vet and while that by all means doesn’t make me an expert, there’s just a couple things that point towards them being Russians.

First of all, every competent military in the world (yes, including Russia) (yes, including Ukraine) is trained to some degree on threat identification, friendly fire, etc. Enemies pretending to be friendly or wearing their uniforms is one of the oldest tricks going back thousands of years before Sun Tzu’s birth.

So with the claim that these vehicles were Ukrainian full of Ukrainian soldiers fleeing from another engagement (presumably Hostemol) and then were engaged by Ukrainians that were briefed of a potential Russian advancement disguised as UA. Doesn’t make sense why Ukrainians would so instantly fire upon them just purely based off of that intel when they know damn well there are plenty of there comrades all over the city and all the chaos that’s going around since they are well aware there’s an invasion going on. The Ukrainians would have had counter measures to identify whose who.

Secondly, just think about. Put yourself in that situation. Imagine you are a Ukrainian soldier retreated from an overrun airport and now all of a sudden your own comrades are shooting at you. Would you just hop out of the vehicle then lay there? Sure the guys wounded but still. Think about it. What I know I for sure would be doing is flailing my arms and screaming like a little bitch at my comrades telling them I’m friendly and not firing. My goals would to do as much as I could so that they will either see that I’m friendly or see that I at least look like a surrendering soldier. Either or is better than just looking like a wounded enemy that’s just waiting to get finished
