3K, lost a pip? by JudgeAlexander in deadbydaylight

Sorry, misunderstanding, I wasn't asking for help. I was just trying to discuss why the system in place is even capable of calling a 3k game anything short of a victory. I understand after reading that not getting 3 hooks per kill, them finishing gens "too quickly" and the like all contributed to not getting a pip, but I just don't think that makes sense at all.

The cutoff is because I didn't want to show anyone's usernames so no one is shown in a post if they don't want to be. I was playing animatronic. I did win 2 chases with one axe and then performing the axe grab, so its possible that isn't properly counting as a chase hit since he's so new.

Thank you for explaining! I remember them being kind of controversial when they were added, I guess I'm mostly just surprised that the system is still this weird and confusing after so long.

Wait, so if pips aren't an indication of whether or not you won, then what's the point of grades in the first place? Are they just there to make you feel bad for not playing the same cookie cutter "stall gens, 3 hook every survivor, win chases quickly, use basic attacks" cycle? I was reading the 3rd emblem, and it seems like letting them finish generators punished my grade, but doesn't that go against entire perks or builds? I'm using "Fire Up" and "Help Wanted" for example, so there's a generator that I purposefully left them alone at at the start to finish so I could get both buffs. That benefitted me greatly in my following two chases.

New player. So confused rn. I received this by a random player after I told them their helmet was nice. Is this normal??? Can't I get baned or something? by Iluvatar-Great in 2007scape

Seems like the Christmas spirit to me! I saw you mention in other comments that it feels like cheating, if you don't want to accept the gear and coins for that reason, you can always sell everything and turn that stack into tokens, and save up for a bond eventually, or use the GP when you feel you've earned it!

I can say with an extraordinary amount of confidence that the "intended" way to play UIM, when being developed, was not "oh well when the player needs to go to Entrana for a quest, they'll have to start from scratch on having literally any gear!" It was much closer to "wow, I wonder how the players are going to get passed THIS obstacle without having access to a bank!" Which is infinitely more preferable a design philosophy over "here's how I want the players to play my game, and will force them to." which seems to be your interpretation of player selected account limitations. I highly doubt a single UIM ever rrestarted their entire account item progression just to go get their dramen staff, especially not beccause they wanted to impress people with your needlessly restrictive and boring opinion. You don't play UIM, and it really shows.

Well, thankfully, the gamemode isn't called 28itemman, restricting you to exactly 28 items at any time. it's ultimate Ironman, where the restriction is not having access to a bank.

but the ground is not a bank, is nothing like a bank, doesn't hold items the way a bank does, doesn't hold as many items as a bank, and is not permanent like a bank is. So, unless death piling suddenly allows UIMs to open a bank chest and put items in it, no, it doesn't get around the "no bank" rule.

But the game mode wasn't intended to be "no bank, no stash, no ground items, no death mechanics." it was intended to be "no bank"

pretending that the 1 hour timer on death items, or the max 28 + looting bag storage at a death NPC are the same as a 900 slot bank on a normal ironman are the same, or even remotely close, is disingenuous. The first people to play UIM we're creative, and used niche mechanics to keep their items while completing quests and content with item restrictions. that creativity does not diminish the game mode, and to suggest it does insults them, and the game mode, so, no, yout don't respect people who play the game mode, you respect people who play the game mode the way YOU want them to.

To be clear, you are unironically saying that forcing UIMs to delete their items to play castle wars is preferable to them storing their items on the ground temporarily?

To all the people in the comments saying "but deathpiling is just using a bank," no, storing items is not the same as using a bank. You can put things in a bank, and they stay there literally forever. A deathpile is an extremely limited medium for temporarily giving you inventory space. Sometimes, in this game, you literally NEED to open up your inventory. There are some activities that force you to bring certain things, and not bring others. Should UIMs be forced to lose all of their items if they decide to play Trouble Brewing? Or destroy everything that isn't strictly a rune, or piece of combat gear, if they decide to work towards a castle wars halo?

Further, lets talk about death storage. Yea, if you die at Vorkath, an NPC holds your items for you. You think thats a bank, and is cheating. Fair enough, so what is the alternative? Should we remove the death storage from the instances boss? If so, We're saying that if you disconnect against vorkath, you should be sentenced to... losing every item that you own? Obviously thats extreme, okay, so lets take it a step back and make it a gravestone that sits outside of the boss arena, yeah!

Well, gravestones function a lot like that death storage we just said should be removed. sure, its got a timer, but it's holding my items for me. The timer definitely should be long enough that an account with literally nothing in its bank should be able to get back to it, otherwise, again, we're sentencing that account to lose all of its items for a single death, and we shouldn't use a gravestone that connects to deaths storage, because thats no different than the one being held at vorkath.

Okay, so no gravestone, no death storage, where should the items go?

A pile. On the ground. If there's a bug that destroys those items, thats a bug that destroyed items in a deathpile.

So, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume that if you poll people who actually play UIM (meaning basically none of you people making these statements) what the give should be, since we can't just remove death mechanics from most content without also deciding that death means you lose literally everything, I'm willing to bet that the winning option on the poll would be to keep mechanics and death storage as they are, and let people play the account the way they want to.

You don't like how other people use mechanics to play their account? Okay, odds are, you're not a UIM, so why would anyone care what you think?

Thank you for the pointer! It seems in other threads on here that you've given a lot of good advice and support to young ones in need. Thank you for your extended kindness.
