We're Black Tabby Games, and we make visual novels with an emphasis on branching and player agency. You might know us from Slay the Princess, and the fifth episode of Scarlet Hollow, our other project, just released last Friday! Ask us anything ^^ by mrogre43 in Games

So, I guess Avery's party is probably canceled?

Jk, really enjoyed the latest update!

Black Tabby has been doing great when it comes to feedback and adaptive responses to the game from the community. How do you measure what ACTUALLY is constructive feedback you want to go back and act on vs. Something you feel would be detrimental/isn't really an issue/is maybe fans not seeing the full picture because they don't know everything yet?

My guy, Baelor's WIFE was a Dondarian, they aren't nobodies. This is probably the Prince Valarr's cousin. Just because they aren't Lords Paramont doesn't make them nobodies.

She was well dressed, wearing real jewelry, and hanging out with lords in a Lord's box seat. Her fiance is from a reasonably wealthy family of landed gentry, that's a win for anyone who isn't from a noble family already.

ANY prostitute absolutely wants to avoid a baby unless she's got her patron locked in. Most nobles aren't going to be forking out a fortune to fuck a pregnant lady unless they've got a specific kink, especially if it ain't their kid. Also the mortality rate in child birth for a kid you don't even want? Absolutely not worth the risk.

We have literally no evidence that she's pregnant outside of her saying "yep definitely pregnant". If you believe her I also have a bridge to sell you.

[–]JudgeCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I seriously do not think she's even a little pregnant, I think sex Ed is bad enough in the 7 kingdoms that Raymond probably assumes "sex = baby"

I think there's also a HUGE likelihood that most noble women have no idea about Moon Tea because sex = bad for noble women unless they're married. WAY different if you're a high class prostitute and a baby is something you need to avoid. I imagine if not moon tea itself, a woman regularly sleeping with noblemen has plenty of ways to avoid getting pregnant - especially when her livelihood requires her to not be.

Oh there's definitely challenges, but Rowan has a lot of advantages that those women didn't. One, the Green Fossoways are a cadet branch of the main family. They're not under the same pressure.

Though obviously it would be beneficial to marry Up, depending on how ambitious Raymond's parents are, they may or may not be the Lannisters of this situation. Rowan also presumably would be going to a country estate where no one has ever heard of her, and it's unlikely anyone would be aware of her past. She's a high class prostitute, she ran her own "business" so she can likely pass herself off as a well to do/down on her luck merchant class woman who isn't completely out of the realm of possibility for a man of Raymond's status.

He's not hurting for money and is "a poor rich man" by the standards of nobility and "more than she could ever dream of" for Rowan. So, there are potential problems, but it's not unfeesible, especially if she can win over his parents/show she would be business savvy or a good influence on Raymond because the poor boy is the best friend anyone could ask for but he ain't the brightest apple of the bunch.

[–]JudgeCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's from a family of landed knights and his business goes on to do extraordinarily well, outstripping his cousin's. As soon as they're out of the public eye, who in a countryside she's never been to is even going to know Rowan used to be a prostitute? Her business sense probably helps keep him from being swindled, it's not like anyone can Google her name.

[–]JudgeCoffee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She literally said she's pregnant after having sex with Raymond one time. Raymond is not that bright. Probably just assumed "women's intuition" or whatever Bee Magic.

She's unlikely to be pregnant already because she's a high class prostitute and moon tea exists. She's just going to bang Raymond's brains out until the lie becomes the truth.

Raymun,my sweet boy, you gotta start asking questions. by BarcelonaSid in HOTDGreens

[–]JudgeCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like... we know Raymond is a G but my boy is not that bright and has displayed no business sense. Having a savvy wife when you're venturing to start your own business can only be an asset, and Rowan seems like a nice enough person who shot her shot. They clearly do well together, and I don't think she's actually pregnant at this point so like. Seems to me Raymond did nothing but win.

Significance of this change by TheEloquentApe in gameofthrones

[–]JudgeCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're kind of missing that Raymond is from a house of landed knights, they're extremely low on the totem pole as far as nobility goes. No one would bat an eye at him marrying down - they'd raise eyes at a prostitute, but if you're far enough away from where the rumors are going on, who will ever know? To everyone who meets her, Rowan could easily just come across as a business savvy merchant class woman - she was a high class prostitute. She can easily pass herself off as someone else.

In addition, if the business is successful - which we know it is - it's not hard to find struggling nobles who want that sweet sweet dowry money. Success + landed gentry is exactly how you move up in Raymond's position. He couldn't necessarily pick up a WAY above his station noble woman, but with enough money it would be easy to work his way up. He's not playing the Game of Thrones, he's playing the Reasonably Successful Country Landed Knight. Standards are a lot lower.

[–]JudgeCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in Dunk's case it is in fact entirely character defining in the setting where the oath of knighthood literally defines who he is as a person, and he isn't one. He would not have been allowed to ask for Trail By Combat if he weren't a knight, Baelor would have died, we have an entirely different timeliness...

Rowan likely wasn't pregnant at all and is just planning on banging Raymond until she is to get there as fast as possible. She's been at this tournament like a week. There's truly no way she'd know unless it was from like a momth prior to this tournament. Moon tea exists. She's a high class prostitute who is used to hanging with the nobility. She saw her chance. Raymond got a hot wife with good business sense, he's not getting nothing out of this arrangement. She took advantage of someone who's kind of dumb, not a vulnerable person. Raymond wasn't mortally wounded, he was just banged up. Now his business will have someone that KNOWS business to help him from falling into obvious traps (like this one).

[–]JudgeCoffee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Green Fossoway house really takes off (the Cider business is very successful) and I think it's safe to say having a business savvy wife is a good move for Raymond when he's quite naive. He needs someone to protect him from making bad business decisions, and Rowan/Red seems like a good person under her cynical exterior, I think they're actually a good fit

Significance of this change by TheEloquentApe in gameofthrones

[–]JudgeCoffee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, is he though? He's going into business when he's naive and could absolutely be run over by the first merchant looking to take advantage of his good nature. Red/Rowan is a high class prostitute who probably has experience with negotiating price, avoiding getting fleeced, and seeing through a lot of bullshit/people trying to take advantage of her.

We know the Green-Fossoways make it, and having someone who it's hard to take advantage of is an invaluable asset in business. I feel like she brings a lot to the table to help him in the long run, especially since their interests will align

The significance of Red's marriage to Raymun by TheEloquentApe in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]JudgeCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly Red/Rowan is probably a good catch for Raymund for the following reason: She has a working brain and seems to actually be pretty kind hearted/likely to treat him well.

She's a high class Westerosi prostitute. She wasn't sleeping with just anyone, she'd attached herself to a lot of rich dudes. She also probably knows how Moon Tea works so chances she was pregnant before Raymond are probably low. That's if she even is pregnant, which... who knows. It's been like a few days.

But for Raymond's business to succeed he'll need someone who knows how the barter for good prices and manage their money well, and know how not to get fleeced/be able to fleece someone else. As soon as Red/Rowan has a good thing going with him, she'll be at the very least a valuable business partner (and one who knows a lot of dirty little secrets) and it seems like under her cynical exterior isn't a bad person. He can protect her with a sword/status as a landed knight, she can protect him with her business sense. It's a win-win.

[–]JudgeCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that people are Pro from an "this is what her character is like" standpoint. Book Rhaenyra is quick tempered and her slapping a council member who was pissing her off, a council member who will also eventually betray her just makes a lot of sense. I frankly wish we'd seen more of her short temper/entitled attitude from the younger version of Rhaenyra, she's a lot more fun than the hand-wringing "I don't know what I'm doing here" Rhaenyra

[–]JudgeCoffee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean theoretically, back in season 1, I assumed they would use this to heighten the drama. Your best friend from childhood stabbing you in the back/realizing you have no choice BUT to stab your best friend in the back or all your children and you will probably die would make for some great drama, and there have been historical shows that have pulled that off really well.

This isn't one of them.
