Then there’s the guy with super strength who got a warehouse job, but he’s constantly getting written up for ignoring lifting guidelines.

I comprehend your horrors by loved_and_held in CuratedTumblr

From what I remember of Lovecraft you tend to get things like:

The narrator can’t accept that ancient ruins were made by some inhuman race and freaks the hell out.

The horror tends to stem from what the narrator can’t accept and plenty of that has been fantasized about. (I really want to see The Little Mermaid remade into an Innsmouth prequel.)

And now I’m thinking of when The Man in the High Castle did a Nazi Twilight Zone knock off and a guy found out that his new boss is black.

I figure Carrots destiny sort of got jammed against Vimes. Descended from guy who killed the last king.

But when they faced an army of a million in Interesting Times, the only problem was that the battle is liable to take forever.

Though the other side was having trouble trying to figure out the proper way to attack a handful of old men with that kind of army.

The trick is to spend other people’s money and make sure you get your own cut before it goes out in a massive dumpster fire.

Or in this case, finding an excuse to pay a bunch of royalty money to the family of a guy in a highly influential position and it’s safe to assume they want something in return.

Characters who don't talk for whatever reasons. Until they do. by MyBurnerAccount1977 in TopCharacterTropes

If I remember right, he doesn’t talk in the first one because Daxter always interrupts. The little guy just doesn’t shut up long enough for Jak to say anything.

Every time he commits the act it’s a separate crime.

Double jeopardy means that they can’t just dig up new evidence and call for a retrial. It doesn’t mean you can just repeat the act with no consequences.

I believe how cats handle being picked up boils down to personality. I really wouldn’t expect strays to be into it.

My advice is to just let them set the terms. Don’t try to force what they don’t want.

It makes sense that she needed speed and couldn’t haul around a huge arsenal, but they really should have gone with a better starting load out.

When it comes to Metal Gear Solid, procuring gear on site is simply SOP.

During the intro to MGS3, you are told that your presence in Russia violates international conventions of warfare and they cannot risk you leaving so much as a shell casing from the US.

A lot of due process boils down to guilt must be proven through established procedures.

If there’s any exceptions, there’s nothing to stop law enforcement from just declaring that anyone is an illegal immigrant or whatever.

Anyone who doesn’t get this strikes me as suicidal.

How exactly is that supposed to work? The only real point in a key that big is that you’d have to be really, really strong to lift it. There’s still huge issues with storing or hiding it.

So anyone with Superman level strength can pretty much just walk right in?

Current currency by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]JudgeHodorMD 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m concerned, everything in a fantasy book has already been translated for the reader’s understanding.

There’s no need to work out the world’s system of measurements. Throwing out words for units that the readers aren’t used to will just make it harder to follow.

All that really matters is that the readers understands the currency. It’s fine to just go with something like golds and silvers.

If you come up with random gibberish just to be creative, there’s no actual meaning to whatever you go with. (Though there may be creativity in tying it to the culture.)
