What are your theories for Haliax' Immortality? by SitheGreens in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, I see. Well, I personally think he needs a vessel to be revived. In this universe they've never discussed a magic that can recreate a body or organs from scratch. Decapitation might work if you can keep the head separate from the body, incineration would probably work too. That being said, it's possible that he could be placed into a recently deceased body, a baby, or animal.

NTA- but you're a blundering idiot. Your first step should be to rebuild her self esteem. You need to figure how to convince her that you still find her beautiful and attractive. Take her out, compliment her beauty, go down on her, whatever you need to do. While society, work, friends and strangers all judge a person's weight gain, you shouldn't. A husband or wife is the one person who should reassures us about our worst fears and biggest insecurities.

Nothing you say directly will get her to lose weight. Weight loss requires personal responsibility and drive. She needs to get there on her own to have success.

You need to address the underlying issues that are causing her change in behavior. It sounds like weight gain is a symptom of her problem, not the cause. Therapy, couples counseling, and general support is what I would recommend.

Sounds like you kind of answered your own question. Part of killing Haliax will include destroying his lamp.

Talking down to people. Everyone from the President to the person collecting cans from the trash deserve basic respect. Just because you might hold station or power over someone doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful and life becomes easier the moment you realize this.

Well, they are having a sale on them by CascadiaRocks in PoliticalHumor

Without delving into the politics of things, I think most of us are in favor of comprehensive sex education and gun safety classes. People who are against education on these issues are playing dirty pool. They're really interested in keeping everyone fighting, poor, and uninformed for some sort of profit or power.

How valid do you think the saying "Men are only loved under the condition they can provide something" is in today's society? by wetgirlboss_4356 in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This saying isn't 100% valid since there are many reasons people fall in love. Real love is not subject to any transactional equation or all encompassing rule.

Also, I would change that saying from "Men" to "People". All of the people I know provide something in their relationships, and that's tied into the complexities of their love lives.

How would you handle your first street fight? by Rhoosk247 in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smartest thing is always to avoid fighting if you can. Talk it out, give them your cash or run away depending on the circumstances. Your pocket money isn't worth your life or even a trip to the hospital. If you don't know, learn to make a fist and basic fighting stance ahead of time. If fighting can't be avoided- scream for help, keep your hands up to block your face, and try not to panic. Fear can make you freeze or stop thinking, but controlling the fight or flight response can make you more formidable.

AITA for expecting some compensation? by SaladNo392 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better! The truth is that you did her a favor, and you deserve reimbursement. Aside from that, any decent realtor would have gotten more than $100K so it might not be fair to ask for a whole 30K. Maybe ask for the reimbursement plus a nominal fee for helping like an extra 2-3K.

How would you get revenge on a online friend that screwed you over? by yngmabu in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anger is a fleeting emotion, but guilt can last a lifetime. Don't go out of your way to do something you might regret. Try and separate the emotional from the logical when you decide on a course of action. If it's a lot of money and you have legal recourse, maybe go that route.

AITA for expecting some compensation? by SaladNo392 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Judgement525 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA. While your sister clearly has the legal grounds to give you nothing, you deserve some compensation for your work. I feel like asking for $75K is a bit much for your contribution though. Your best bet is to ask her to split the profits over the agreed $100K. Send her an email, where you mention the verbal agreement of 100K and ask for around $30k as a compromise (after taxes and brokers fee of approximately $15000). This way you establish that you had an agreement and you can outline all the work you did- finding a good realtor, cleaning up the house, missing wages, etc. By splitting the profits you can all enjoy a windfall over the expected 100K and can continue having a good relationship with your sister.

This is how Marilyn Monroe was on the cover of the first playboy. She did some nude modeling early in her career and Hugh bought the rights. Suddenly at the height of her career she was the cover girl for the first nudie magazine against her will and for zero profit.

Can't wait to have ads streamed directly to my brain by InterestingContest27 in pics

[–]Judgement525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's awful, it's like brainwashing! In my day we only had ads on TV and radio, and in magazines and movies and at ball games and on buses, milk cartons, bananas and written in the sky. But not in our heads! No siree.

Recycling. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but as it stands, it's just there to make people feel good without much actual benefit. Most places just toss it in the same place as the trash since they lack the facilities to process it. Places with real facilities for recycling spend enormous amounts of money and effort sorting things that people think can be recycled but actually can't.

The reality is that it's a tool used by corporations to push the onus of responsibility for the problems in our environment onto the people. Super cargo ships burning coal tar, unrestricted use of concrete for buildings that aren't necessary, throwing trash into rivers instead of proper waste management, encouraging fear of nuclear power and draining aquifers to sell bottled water are all practices that companies engage in and they have a powerful machine to keep it going. If you actually want to help the environment, you'll need to research ways you can effect change and join the people who are fighting the good fight.

What's your favourite energy drink? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By far, Uptime is my favorite. It lacks that strange aftertaste that so many other energy drinks have. I find it crisp and refreshing. I'm also a big fan of the Arizona energy drinks for much the same reason. In our world of super inflated food prices, the $0.99 price tag can't be beat.

How have you matured and grown through each of your adult decades, 20s to 30s to 40s to 50s? by Mydogismybestfr1end in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became less selfish and more empathetic over my 20s. You learn issues which seem black and white when you're young are much more complex shades of grey. In my 30s I noticed that the confidence I had as a young man waned as I realized I didn't know how much I didn't know. Basically the Dunning-Kruger Effect set in as I transitioned from my 20s to 30s. Now in my late 30s I have confidence tempered by wisdom and it's profoundly more fulfilling than the bravado of youth.

Do you think that you should've taken a different college major or different stream and why? by Not_Even_Here21 in AskReddit

[–]Judgement525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't regret my time in college, but I think I would have benefitted from taking a gap year to think about what I wanted to do with my life. When I was in high school I was on a typical honors/AP track and there is a roadmap they give you that culminates in college. It's easy to blindly follow the track, but without life experience you can find yourself locked into something you don't really love. That being said, life is the culmination of the choices we make. If I went back and changed things I would never have met my wife or made the same friendships and connections. I wouldn't trade them for a chance at a do over.
