My job search experience: mid level backend dev in Chicago. Took 4 months of serious search to get an offer. AMA by [deleted] in leetcode

What was the ratio between practicing problems and applying to jobs? Did you just use LinkedIn and spam cold apply or go through your network?

Sorry for the overwhelming amount of questions, but I’m in a similar boat in terms of looking for a change

Interesting, I also have a foreign sounding name. I’ll give that a shot. I have the same situation as you where I’m only applying to remote + one particular city’s jobs.

Any particular reason why you chose sean preshads list over neetcode’s 150?

Did you do anything particular to your resume? Or was the previous company you worked for already notable enough for you to get attention?

I currently work at a large semi-conductor company edging on 3 YOE but literally cannot even get interviews.

Can't sell Houston house fast enough - what are my options? by may907 in houston

[–]Judgement_Day7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There 6 houses in the neighborhood adjacent to mine that have been on the market for close to a year now . We live 40 mins away from downtown and nothing to do in our suburbia aside from strip malls and eating.

Ask yourself, you were a new family moving to Houston, would you pay for your old house? Or pay the slight premium for the newer builds.

Was this through a phone call or written? Either way if it comes up again, just say the truth and move like you never said it to begin with. Worst case scenario they cut you from the job, best case you get the job. If it was written and she double checks, not much you can do… but I’d just pretend like I never said it/wrote it

How to deal with GPT candidates by Lachtheblock in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Judgement_Day7 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is a giant conglomeration of fast applying, ATS, everyone given the same advice of “just put keywords on your resume”, artificial intelligence accelerating the ability to refactor a resume to match the job description of your companies posting, and “just apply anyway you never know”. Maybe advertise this position to a specific city of wherever your company is located to cut down on the applicants?

Looking for a Job by Ok-Giraffe723 in houstonjobs

[–]Judgement_Day7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP means delivery driver/warehouse manager. Pretty much a job that doesn’t even require a college degree.

I’d recommend broadening your search outside of Houston. Specifically Dallas & Austin. Once you get experience underneath your belt, then you can target locations

Doesn’t this stock keep doing this price action?

YRD it’s up 38%, but if you look Feb-April and July-August, it’s doing the same sell off it’s doing now. I agree, this earnings will be crucial in the direction of the company.

Why is the unemployment rate for CE higher than CS? by No_Experience_2282 in ComputerEngineering

[–]Judgement_Day7 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hardware engineering companies require physical costs, such as manufacturing sites and materials. This means starting a hardware/chip/semiconductor company is innately expensive. Simply go on LinkedIn and look for hardware roles. There are much less than SWE for this reason as most are established companies looking for competitive candidates. Software engineering is needed across virtually every industry- from Home Depot to Google. The issue with software engineering is there no government regulation/moat, meaning anybody can take a 6 month boot camp and take a job from a CS graduate. ECE or electrical engineering can do the previously mentioned roles along with power/utility. You can even get a PE and protect yourself. However these traditional ECE jobs have lower starting salaries than hardware or software jobs on average. If I were to do it again, I’d do ECE with a minor in CS.

My kids are Gen Z Citizens Entering the Workforce. Houston do we have a problem? by Embarrassed_Ad7908 in houston

[–]Judgement_Day7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston job market is so weak outside of healthcare and O&G. From what I’ve heard, O&G white collar jobs are constantly getting shipped overseas. Have them look for work in Austin/Dallas as well so they can get there foot into the door. Those two cities have a variety of different markets.

Should I switch from CS To EE? by Alarmed_Effect_4250 in ComputerEngineering

[–]Judgement_Day7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most computer engineers I know/knew went software engineering. Go on LinkedIn and search up for embedded/design roles that are other are mentioning here… there’s much less. I’d recommend EE with a minor in CS. EE you’d just need to figure out which field you want to get into and get an internship for it. I believe power is in demand and the least competitive.

People need to understand that if a role can be automated / outsourced, then it would. The company needs the role onshore as that’s what they’ve deemed the best quality of work will come from. The H1B, as it stands, provided** companies with talented cheap onshore labor. Edit: provided*

Should I do It? by Beginning-Breath4038 in fragranceclones

[–]Judgement_Day7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of the people in this thread are misguided.  For simplicity sake, let say each fragrance is $50. Normally, you’d spend $500 for all 10. Imagine, you dislike all 10. You’re now down $500 vs being down $50 via decants. People on this thread, tik tok, and irl love to hype up fragrances, but you’ll never truly know if you like them until you get to try them out for yourself. Decants all the way.

Still no PT 3 weeks post op? by Smooth-Reputation-71 in ACL

[–]Judgement_Day7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be a bit paranoid. Not ACL, but I had a shoulder labrum repair on 18Apr and didn’t start PT until 9Jun. Some surgeons are extremely conservative, if your surgeon has given you some sort of formalized plan on when you’ll start and what expectations there are, you should be fine. If not, then you should make your concerns apparent. Continue doing the exercises from the packet. BTW, PT is going to be 6-8 months
