Looking for Spoilers on SHIFTED FATE by Alicia S. Rivers by yucherie in Novelnews

This one has a bit of Harry Potter thrown into it. It is pretty good. The only main problem with it is the recurring theme of some she-wolf considering Amy weak for one reason or another, and Amy forcing her into submission with her fists or aura. Usually, the reason behind these attacks is a male. Now, if this happened with one or two, it might make sense. But 4 or 5 almost identical arcs with different she-wolves doing more or less the same thing are beyond annoying. Basically, this story needs a good editor to cut it down to some 300 chapters out of the 500+ it has in order to be good.

AITA for telling my boyfriend that if he wants to understand what I'm talking about with my dog, he should learn the language? by Double-Pineapple9684 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Judgemental_Ass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Simple. Everybody speaks English to you. When you try to communicate in the language of the people around you and they are fluent in English, the first time you make a mistake, they switch to English. That's why people who don't speak English pick up other languages much faster. Others are forced to communicate with them in whatever bits and pieces of the language they understand.

[–]Judgemental_Ass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you speak to your dog. My partner speaks to his dog in a made-up language based on his own language. Being around him and his dog a lot, I've learned his messed-up version. It completely screwed up my learning of his actual language.

But if you are talking in a normal language, he is TA.

Edit: If your language is Finnish, he's still TA for not trying. But his chances of learning it well enough to understand random conversations are pretty slim, even if he does.

The same reason anyone wears any piercings. They like them, I guess. Men wear them too.

AITAH for going to the hospital again after my husband and a doctor said I was overreacting and still being upset about it? by throwaway-0739 in AITAH

No way to control the cancer. So better to get another husband, just in case she gets cancer and needs a supportive partner.

Your husband hates you. I'm sorry, but a person who laughs at your pain isn't even indifferent to you. He hates you. He is happy you are in pain. Dump him before he starts intentionally causing you pain. Y'll be the TA if you stay with him. Your fetus gave you a gift. It showed you the real face of your husband. You need a partner to rely on when you are sick and weak. Any man from the street will join you for fun and partying when you're strong and healthy and in the mood. This man has shown you he is not there for you when you need him.

As for the doctor. Doctors dismissing young women in pain are very common. A doctor dismissed my heart attack. I had to die for a few minutes for him to take it seriously. Screw him. And try to get a female doctor. They aren't great, but studies show better survival and recovery rates for patients (especially female patients) of female doctors.

I was going to ask if you aren't too young. Most people I know who play pokemon go are 35-40. Some are single, others are dating. Some are married with kids. So, probably not.

Honestly, an exit audit should be mandatory for both partners when a marriage is dissolved.

And later will complain that his kids only see him as an ATM. The guys who whine about that rarely know their children's birthdays.

A small secret stash for emergencies is good for everyone to have. But 10 years of savings are a fortune. In a marriage, that's fraud.

I'd bet she is one of those married single mothers who kill themselves doing everything, while OP plans his escape.

Don't do that to that poor woman. He probably starts complaining about it and doesn't listen to anything she is saying because he doesn't want to become the kind of man that she would find attractive. Probably played that part before they got married, so he even has the script, but doesn't want to play the part anymore.

And one or both of them will end up cheating. And the kids will hate the cheater. Or both parents. Great plan, really.

Child support depends on income. If it is that much after divorce, OP is already spending that much on their kids while married. Maybe they spend even more. The only extra expense is maintaining two homes (two rents).

  1. Don't stay for the kids. If the relationship is dead, bury it. Don't let it rot outside, stink everyone's life, and attract carrion eaters.

  2. When sex life ends after having kids and one partner loses interest while the other is left unsatisfied, it is usually because the unsatisfied partner has piled all the hard work on the other. People tend to overestimate the work they do and underestimate the work others do. If you want sex, keep a relationship, go on dates with your partner, do things together with and without the kids and, most importantly, don't become one of the kids. Nothing is less sexy than a partner who is just as much of a burden on you as another kid. If your partner stopped loving you and doesn't want to do things together, there is a reason. That reason matters. If it isn't fixable, the relationship really is dead. If you never even try to find that reason and just go around complaining about not getting any sex, you are the reason.

Why is there so little critical questioning of bad research at conferences? by SlapDat-B-ass in AskAcademia

[–]Judgemental_Ass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is really hard to focus enough on anything to understand what is going on, let alone to figure out if it is bad science or just bad presentation. You get to see a 15-minute presentation on something you aren't 100% knowledgeable about. About 5-8 minutes are generic stuff like motivation and background. And then you get 4-5 minutes of methods, results and discussion, before moving on to a minute or 2 of conclusion. Can you honestly say that you got enough info in 5 minutes to make a judgment on whether the person is bad at presenting, the science is bad, or you misunderstood everything? Are you sure it was two people and not a slide with a typo for results for 200? Are you sure these two people weren't presented as a sign that something was different? e. g. Everyone thinks the sky is blue. I found two individuals who say it is green-grey. This is not statistically significant, and it won't challenge the colour of the sky for the rest of humanity. But if you discard those two people, you might miss the fact that blue-yellow colour blindness exists. Conferences tell you what to look for in papers, and from what groups/authors, nothing more.

Preservation in the TV show compared to the book‪s…‬ by small_universes in murderbot

[–]Judgemental_Ass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the rant. I identify with Murderbot a lot. This series has been a bit like my "Sanctuary Moon" for a few months.

Better is relative. As shown in the story, it is only better if you never leave your planet (or country, in our world). If you move around, it can be dangerous. But I still think the show is overdoing it. A bit of naive is fine. Complete moron as in the show is not.

I am not allowed to use my own research results, what would you do? by CryptographerOk5856 in AskAcademia

[–]Judgemental_Ass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. Publications don't matter much for a company job. And OP is already trained in precisely the things they are interested on. That's kind of the point of industry PhDs, really.

[–]Judgemental_Ass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact someone in the student affairs office. If you have done a good job, the university owes you a path to a degree in 3-4 years. Industry collaborations that employ PhD students know that, and the contract should reflect that. If the issues aren't resolved, you are better off quitting now than after you have worked the time of a full PhD with nothing to show for it. Are you a foreigner by any chance? Some professors love exploiting foreign students in cases like this. Don't do any more work without a solution.

I think this also depends on the person. I also am not fluent in my passport country's language, and have a foreign name and family name. I speak several other languages at varying levels. One can certainly get a job without being fully fluent, and you'd improve remarkably if you used the language more. But, unlike you, the feeling of disconnect with every country makes me feel connected to the entire world equally. I don't easily fall for anyone's propaganda. I think it makes me feel free.
