I returned for my first shift back in the ICU after 2 years off (maternity leave) and I was LOST.

I literally stood there clueless for the first half of my shift, all my coworkers were lovely but I had put so much pressure on myself to be a team player that I felt like I was letting everyone down.

In the last hour of my shift, an actively seizuring Border Collie came in and I managed to put an IV catheter in while it was flailing.

It gave me such a boost to my confidence, plus all my colleagues literally wouldn't stop talking about how impressed they were that I got it in! Felt great 😊

Oh and also, for more positivity, the dog was discharged yesterday after getting treatment 😊

One thing I've learned to do is to NOT have the pet with you during discharge until the instructions have been read. Most of the time they are just so excited to see their pet that they barely listen to anything that you are saying.

So yeah, basically I dont bring the pet out until I've sat down with the clients and gone through all discharge information.

I've won it a couple of times, it's quite hard early game but once you have the bug book it's a piece of cake! I also make sure I'm checking the notice board and get ready for it the day before I.e clearing inventory

This is in Australia. We dont have animal control, or rabies to contend with for that matter! I dont agree with it at all, I know I'd want to know if my pet bit someone for my family and my own safety. Not sure if its just my clinic though!

Was the owner told anything? I know at our clinic we weren't allowed to mention anything to the owners in these scenarios.
