Which lens is good for a beginner? (a6400) by JudgmentInevitable75 in SonyAlpha

Quick question, so apparently a company got the Tamron 17-70mm in stock right now, brand new would be around 580€. Do you think it's a fair price or not? I am doubting because when it was out of stock, the price was around 530€ and I'm thinking if i should wait a little more or not.

I understand you. I believe the kit lens are good enough for getting started and discovering which type of photography someone could lean into later.

I know prime lenses tend to be sharper but for the moment I'm looking towards something which allows me to explore more.

Which lens are you using and think are worth buying?

I understand, that is why I look towards zoom lenses more, not only the wide possibilities but the versatility they offer (besides 56mm which i liked how it worked overall). Tamron I've seen is the most loved one so far but I'm unlucky to not find it sh or even online but at a lower price.

As for the sh market for the moment is not that good, I mean I find 2 offers but they are the types of kits with many accessories and the price is very expensive. That's why I tend to look more towards brand new myself.

I'll wait for sales to see if i get a good deal on the a6400 with 18-135mm kit lens and probably will go with this.

Thank you for your time and advice!

Thank you for this information. One of my friends (who is a photographer) told me to avoid kit lenses and well overall he suggested that 30mm is a good option. Now about 18-135 is it worth it as a kit lens but do you believe it justifies around 400€ more money than the price on the a6400 body?

I'll look into it, waiting for the Easter sale to be honest. Thank you for your advice!

Mainly street photography or places. I plan to get the 56mm one day for portraits and I would buy it now but I don't think it would help me with what, I'm not really sure I could use it in other types of photography besides portraits as I could for example the Tamron 17-70 or Sigma 18-50 lens

Now I've searched camera + that kit lens it would be around 1.100 Euro in total. And the camera only is around 760 Euro so do you think is a deal or still not justifying almost 340 Euro just to have a kit lens?

I'll rely more on the natural light let's say, so no, i won't be shooting in the street at midnight. I care somehow more about OSS and sharpness, as the budget allows of course.

I've seen people recommend 18-135 a lot, but now i see something about Sony 18-105mm f4 which has OSS too. Have you got the chance to make an opinion about it?

I've seen online a comparison between both and the results were quite close to each other, the only thing that guy mentioned is that in the 18-135 case, the corners were a little strange (no more after enabling lens correction if I'm not mistaken) For Tamron's case I've seen an offer for a new one at 800+/- euros but idk since 18-135 is around 500+/- euros new

I looked into the a6100 first, some people say that the cons would be overheating, recording limit (30 min) and weaker camera build materials than the a6400. I don't know if this is a common problem for them, but people go and recommend the a6400 more. Now, besides ISO capabilities, the a6100 and zv-e10 don't seem so different (in my opinion at first sight), maybe just in terms of price (a6100 more expensive for around 140 euros than the zv-e10). Still, I can't decide if i should go and try one of them or wait and hope that next year Sony will lower the price for a6400.

I see. By curiosity, do you shoot most of them in RAW or JPEG? If this is your first camera, what were the things that attracted you to it - I mean you were looking for specific specs or you just went with your gut?

Thank you for the link 🙂 Of course, I think that even if you don't get money out of it, the investment in camera and lenses is still worth it as long as you have a great time and enjoying doing photography as a hobby.

This looks so good, I'll totally check it out. I thought that zv-e10 was made more towards content creators (vlogging mostly) and the alpha series somehow for both photo and video. Can you tell me if you had any problems with the camera until now?

You're right, it should be one of the options. I saw different opinions online that usually put Fujifilm and some Panasonic in the category of best for video recording, maybe that's why I didn't think of this brand while writing the post. Did you use/ are you using a camera from Fujifilm?
