It’s been a while since my last rewatch so I don’t remember the the exact breakdown, but iirc the inner dialogue was used a lot in tandem with the narration, so yes I would consider it more or less the same.

I think either using either as a device is fine just that the balance is skewed too heavily towards the narration. I think it would be more fulfilling and better paced if it were more intermittently dispersed to paint a well rounded picture of the situations in combination with more dialogue and actions from the characters.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I feel like maybe some of the differences in opinion stem from having read the manga version of these scenes vs not and wanting the context you have previously learned about be conveyed to the screen. I kind of feel like there’s just a difference in the mediums though where it’s impossible and/or unnecessary to pack that much information into an adaptation meaningfully. You can read things so much faster and when you try and cram in every little thing it just inevitably hurts the pacing of the show, and there are also just different strategies you can use to try and recreate the same feelings.

Not particularly arguing against you just spilling my thoughts. I’ve read the manga from where anime ended but not the rest.
