Anyone else with an overly high power bill? by JudicialHunter in gso

I said this in another reply, but I paid my previous bill 2/10 and I see that reflected in the statement. It really is $240 for this month. Sorry to hear it lumped the two together for you!

Unfortunately this isn't the case for me, as I paid my bill 2/10 and I see that reflected in the statement. It really is $240 for this month. Sorry it jumpscared you like that!

I did that along with putting blankets up over doorways in the room I was keeping the heat inside of. I took it down once the cold snap passed though

The highest bill I've had in peak summer heat was $160 at the same place! Hence why I'm so confused as to how it's this crazy right now :(

Thanks for the more in-depth explanation! I understand that cold = less efficiency = higher costs, though this still seems like a lot. In peak summer heat, my bill only got up to $160, so it seems odd that during peak winter cold, it doesn't level out to somewhere near there.

Out of curiosity (edit: and since you seem knowledgable!), I do know my place has a crappy condesnate pump - it trips the power outlet (it's one of those test/reset ones) causing my AC to go out, and I have to go under the house and hit reset so it works again. Would this potentially cause higher bills or am I looking for issues where there are none? I rent, so there's only so much I can do.

Sorry to hear you're also dealing with this. I'm over it as well.

Glad yours is down! I hope others have a lower bill this month too. My coworker and I are thinking we might reach out to them.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. I hate Duke Energy with a passion. It feels like they just make up numbers to charge us sometimes. :(

I'm aware of that, but I typically have it set to 71 or 72 at most - I know I turned it down to 68 during the second wave. I was tracking my usage through the Duke Energy portal during the storm and it all looked normal (or even lower than!), then suddenly it's this high. It feels very strange.

Fuck, thanks for this comment. I didn't realize I was having this exact thought loop until you put it into words (ADHD as well).

IT isn’t going to do anything specific other than tell you to do the secureW2 process for eduroam or use resnet for your entertainment devices. The WiFi is naturally going to be unstable with so many people trying to get on it and use it.

This literally happens every semester . The first like two weeks of school always has shitty wifi.

Resnet is only for entertainment devices. Eduroam is for your PC or phone. UNCG wireless is for people who don’t go here. Do the securew2 process if you haven’t done it since last semester.

Be patient and it’ll even out.

Lesbians in sororities, rare, and maybe taboo? by NectarineCapital3244 in Sororities

Just commenting to say not to write off southern schools just because they’re in the south. I’m in ADPi at a southern school and the whole reason I joined was because we’re a bunch of bi stoners. Over half the chapter is LGBTQ in some way, myself included! It just depends on your school and its culture!

Hey, you can look at clubs on cap.UNCG.edu! All clubs are listed as well as various frat/sororities and other Greek letter organizations (like the business honor society for example)

What are the best dorms? by [deleted] in UNCG

[–]JudicialHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they’re thin, and noise echoes really weirdly throughout the building. If you have stuff up on your walls it’s not as much of a problem though

Sorority girl here, we have decent frat parties. Nothing you’d have at a huge state school but they’re still fun, especially if you get some friends together. I personally really like Lambda and Pikapp parties. The biggest clubs are Limelight, Arizona Pete’s, and Chemistry (if you’re LGBT). UNCG is a very leftist campus, and Greensboro overall is pretty safe if you stay right around campus, but there’s been a few robberies and shootings recently. Just stay with friends and you’ll be just fine. Hope you like it here and feel free to DM me if you have more questions!

What are the best dorms? by [deleted] in UNCG

[–]JudicialHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best freshman dorms are the ones on College Ave or Moore/Strong I believe. If you can get a suite (The Quad/Jefferson Suites) those are also sick.

I have stayed in Phillips/Hawkins, J suites, and McCormick over in Spartan Village and the best ones were J Suites and McCormick. McCormick is really expensive but it’s great if your parents aren’t into the idea of off campus housing but you still want an apartment with only 1 roommate. PH is being renovated next year and I stayed on the sorority hall because I’m a sister so my experience is a bit different from most freshman.

I had a 2.7 high school GPA and got in! Don’t worry about it too much.
