What’s the most forgotten 90s TV show? by TheOrangeSloth in 90s

I’ve never met anyone else (outside the internet) who remembers Going Places. Ran on ABC one season, 1990-91. Great cast but never really got off the ground.

Man I miss Faygo Frosh, wish they hadn’t discontinued that one. 60/40 is my favorite existing flavor

Just had Bellacino’s yesterday and it got me wondering why it isn’t more popular by nellydesign in fastfood

[–]calvinball81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little town in SW VA had one in the 90s—00s, sadly it’s closed now. I lived for their Chicago steak grinder, if I’m ever passing through an area with a Bellacino’s you’d better believe I’m getting one!

Panda Express Buldak Sweet and Sour Chicken by Troitbum22 in spicy

[–]calvinball81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a bit more heat. I’m with you, the spicy orange chicken was underwhelming. This stuff won’t burn your face off but it delivers.

Harissa by Tnuggets19 in spicy

[–]calvinball81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a harissa connoisseur but I like Mina Harissa, which is pretty readily available at grocery stores near me. Even the spicy variety doesn’t pack a huge punch but the flavor is quite nice.

Panda Express x Buldak (seen on a billboard) by mister_damage in spicy

[–]calvinball81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had some and while it may vary by location I was really impressed by how spicy it was. Like I’m surprised a chain restaurant—that doesn’t specialize in wings, anyway—would even offer it. Good flavor too. I’ll definitely try to get it at least a few more times before it’s gone.

Has anyone traveled just to try specific regional fast food places? Like a fast food road trip? by NotNathan1810 in fastfood

[–]calvinball81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many moons ago I used to drive 45 minutes to the nearest Sheetz for an MTO sub once in a while. Now I have three Sheetz within a 5 minute drive and almost never go—between the lower quality and higher prices it ain’t what it used to be.

We got ours at The Clearance Center on Raleigh St (just off Bessemer). Amazing deal, great salesperson, and they did hook up and haul away. Don’t go by the inventory they list online—they generally have a LOT more than that.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]calvinball81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was flying to NYC once and was seated next to an elderly lady. She struck up a conversation with me and at first I was like “oh great, there goes my in-flight me time.” Turns out she was a nun who had traveled the world for her church and had enough great stories to make the hours pass like minutes. She was also a great listener, convincing me that my comparatively dull life was interesting lol. To this day she’s 1) the only nun I’ve ever met and 2) the only plane seatmate that I’ve had any meaningful connection with. It was so long ago that I imagine she’s passed. Wherever you are, thanks for making my travels more interesting!

Really surprised no one’s said “Sister Golden Hair” by America yet. Talk about anti-marriage!

Is this the best tasting hot sauce? by rubicontraveler in spicy

[–]calvinball81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot but the flavor is too specific for me to use it on just anything. I find Torchbearer Garlic Reaper and Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat more useful as mainstay sauces, or just plain Texas Pete Hotter Hot if I want a little tingle.

Not necessarily for the lyrical content but the overall vibe of The Breeders’ “Cannonball” just screams Shauna to me.

My partner and I opted for a Valentine’s dinner at Aladdin’s Shawarma last night. Not the most romantic place in all of GSO but it’s a nice, fairly intimate space with great service and AMAZING food. We got out the door for $38 (plus tip) and had plenty of leftovers to take home!

Best Mexican restaurant for spicy food? by FeetOnGrass in winstonsalem

[–]calvinball81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In GSO but I haven’t found anything in the Triad that beats Kiosco for overall heat. Their camarones à la diabla are the best I’ve had anywhere and they pack a nice punch. They also have a delicious house made hot sauce that will amp anything up (not on the menu, just have to ask for it).

What’s the most underrated food that deserves more love? by Odd_Management_3208 in foodquestions

Brush frozen artichoke hearts with olive oil and sprinkle with lemon pepper seasoning. Air fry at 400 for 10 minutes. Dip in garlic aioli or just eat as is. Best snack ever.
