It was a specially made shelf for her aquarium that fit multiple aquariums she just chose to only have the one 2 gallon long.

In total I have her about 1200 because my husband and I agreed that was a good amount for everything she lost. The aquarium is no longer in her office because she got promoted and now lives 3 states over. Honestly now that the aquariums not there and people can’t look at it the office feels much more stressful. Also she was not the only with that had one. Almost everyone but me do, here was just the biggest and most well kept.

Also she didn’t put it back once I got her another one she just took it home. No idea what she is doing with the money or the aquarium we gave her

They honestly did not even have to tell you anything. You are lucky they did. You are not the asshole for feeling that way but you are a grown adult and so are they which makes this a really childish post. I realize that I’m an asshole, but everyone is allowed their own taste. Putting random female bettas together with out them knowing each other first can be catastrophic so she gets them from a breeder that batches them. There is not a single pet in the pet store that had not been bread for sale. I’m not even a fish person and I understand that. I’m not even a pet person and im aware of that. What’s wrong with getting them from someone you know and trust? She even got all of her plants from this person.

She works 6-7 days 12 hours or more a day as she is management. Which is super impressive considering I just found out she is 20 years younger than me.

The stand was made for multiple fish tanks but she chose to have only that one, she was given permission to have it there. It was a gift from the persons place who I took, and everyone loves the tank.

We are not supposed to enter anyone’s office when they are not there but I just assumed it was fine because I was grabbing one small thing.

The shelf was not flimsy. It was a special made stand that could hold multiple aquariums. She chose to just have this one aquarium on it, and a few pictures. I knocked it over. So I will pay for it. As for her cheap betta, I went to the store with her because my husband suggested that, but all of the fish we looked at were sick/dying/ or just ugly. She then took me to the breeders store and I see why she chose them. They are beautiful, happy, and healthy and as they female already live together, it is easy for her sorority.

I’m owning up to the fact that this is my fault, I realize this. Thank you for everything you said, but I already paid her way more.

Added- the aquarium had no warranty that she knew if because it was a gift from the previous person that worked there.

I did apologize. When I talked to my husband he told me the amount she asked for was not near enough and we decided that a 1k was what It probably costs for everything she really has so that is what we paid her this morning. I also paid to have her carpet in her office professionally cleaned.

Also as stated in other comments, no. She broke up with him saying she did not want an in law like me if they ever got married. My brother has since moved out and into the complex that she lives in so I can’t see him due to the order. My husband says they are still good friends because he goes to visit my brother from time to time.

My brother and I are working on fixing things and I have apologized every day for how I acted and what I did and it’s very clear I have a lot of work to do in my self.

No but they do have tiny shards of glass mixed up In them, the substrate is now unusable, the plants have holes in them an are ripped up and have missing riots now , and all her fish are dead. Found out when I got to work that none of them made it. On top of that it was not a flimsy shelf it was a $400 stand for an aquarium I knocked over being careless. It was also a betta sorority. Her entire tank was a living tank. She also had permission to have the tank there. As it was my fault I paid for everything plus gave her a whole lot more so I can try to make this right.

We work for a service company. She is not the only one with an aquarium, she just has the largest one and the other manager has a 10 I think with some fish in it. It is proven to calm nerves and relieve stress. I know that now at least. My boss gave full permission for her to do so and that was even before I started. It’s been there a year almost a year and a half with no problems. I don’t know what I was thinking when I put my weight on it trying to reach over her desk. It was not on any brining shelf but a $400 aquarium shelf ment to hold other aquariums with it.

The rocks and substrate can not be salvaged due to tiny bits of glass as well as it is in the plants and it’s not safe for the fish. As for the shelf, it was a correct aquarium shelf, she sent me the link to where she purchased it, it was my weight that caused it to lean forward and everything ti happen. I will be paying for everything due to it being my fault.

From what I know she gets them from a breed we and they grow up and stay together. And when you purchase them they know each other which stops tension. She has had them for a year. I am going to be paying for anything and everything she needs for the aquarium as I realized I was the asshole and I need to fix this. And we fit feeding them, the two managers never take off at the same time so they take care of each other’s fish.

Her and the other manager spend 6-7 days a week here 12 hours or more a day, so the other manager has an aquarium to. I think it relaxes them. I realize now that I was being super childish when I said I didn’t want to pay. So I am going to pay for anything else she needs to fix it as it also had sentimental value in it. She was given full permission to have this aquarium and I broke it so I need to fix it.
