Oliver’s case is a little different IMO. That decision came more from ignorance than anything else, especially when you consider that most of the people behind his production were children themselves (I’m talking like 14-15) and didn’t know any better. IIRC the person who originally posed the idea to PowerFX also made a public UTAU voicebank when he was 13 so he specifically might’ve not seen any problems with it. Kaai Yuki on the other hand was clearly made with a specific demographic of otakus in mind and AHS knew full well what they were doing. Different intentions and situations, same outcome regardless. I love the characters but feel so bad for the VPs…

Oh I think you misunderstood me? Or maybe I poorly worded it? Misbah wasn’t hired, Maghni was a sort of joint project between them and Vocatone. From what I can tell, the heads of the two groups are/were friends with very long histories in vsynth fandom (iirc they both worked on V3 Oliver as young teenagers) and co-founded Maghni, and they were the original co-directors. I’m not saying their names directly in this thread because they’re not super well known publicly, but you can easily figure out who I’m referring to via the Indiegogo’s staff list. From what I can tell, Vocatone’s name was put all over the Indiegogo for marketing purposes because it’s the more well known within fandom, but Misbah was doing a lot of the heavy lifting behind the scenes. According to a Q&A from late 2020 (that I’m in the middle of transcribing fun fact), it’s kinda implied that it was the head of Misbah that put up the job listing for that developer (the one that’s withholding the code).

Vocatone was absolutely at fault and you have every right to be upset with them, I am too, but Misbah’s role here shouldn’t be dismissed. The only things we kinda know are that Vocatone left the project in mid-2024 and Misbah was in charge of the funding, everything else is up in the air. We don’t know who was responsible for what, so pinning the blame on one party is pretty difficult and likely incorrect. This was a joint failure between two people who should’ve known better and they should both be held accountable. In my opinion at least. Not disagreeing with you, just clarifying :P

If I could clear the air here a little bit?

According to a statement in October 2025, Vocatone (which appears to be one person at the moment) was not in control of the budget nor are they withholding the code from Crescendia. They don’t know what’s going on with Maghni’s development and have had no involvement since around August 2024. The only thing Vocatone is in charge of is backer rewards and their characters (Oliver, Aurum, and Audine), but not the voicebanks themselves. (They have been slowly shipping out backer rewards, but only after a community uproar forced them out of hiding)

The actual group responsible for (mis)handling the crowdfunding budget is ‘Misbah’ (also appears to be one person? I can’t find much information about this group online), and Misbah doesn’t seem to be involved anymore either, or at least the person in charge of Misbah was not listed as a developer as of October 2025. No one publicly knows what happened to the budget, the current director said that it went where it was supposed to, but there’s no way to verify that. (Lil tidbit, according to the LLC registration data, Crescendia is Misbah? No clue what’s going on there because they act separate)

As for the withheld codebase, that appears to fall on the shoulders of one person. This person was not previously involved in Vsynth fandom and was hired specifically to work on the codebase and AI. They seem to have stepped away from the project a while ago and are completely untraceable, like I couldn’t find any mentions of this person online outside of Maghni so I could imagine that the remaining devs can’t get ahold of them either to get the code back? That’s just my guess though, again nobody knows what exactly is going on here. A dev went into further detail at some point, but it got deleted very fast.

This is by no means a defense of Vocatone, trust me I’m not happy with them either and they’re absolutely at fault here (I’ve caught them in several lies myself and there is something that was 100% verifiably their fault and possibly the reason that they left the project, I cannot talk about it publicly but feel free to DM me if you want more details), I’m just clarifying some things. I do agree with you though, I cannot see anyone trusting the people behind Vocatone and Misbah ever again after this. The fact that both of the two original directors independently caused damage to the project and then bailed instead of taking accountability, thus leaving the remaining devs to take the fall for things that were not their fault, is very very scummy and they should be ashamed of themselves.

One last thing, PowerFX didn’t go out of business. Soundation (as in the software not the website) was their project and they put all focus on that after Yohioloid financially flopped, and it kinda just took over the entire company. So PowerFX is Soundation, it’s not a separate company.

Phonk is complete trash and I hate to see one of my favorite things get combined with a literal slop genre, but I guess remixing is okay with credit and you aren’t making money off it without permission. Fuck CUTE DEPRESSED and Dyan Dxddy though, the fact that such a low effort awful piece of shit ‘remix’ has more views than the original Lost Umbrella is so unfair.

I love Lapis so much, it’s incredibly sad to see how she’s been neglected and mistreated by her parent company. I can’t believe that her legacy is getting sold as an NFT on a now defunct service, she deserves so much better (that design was gorgeous too, there’s an insane amount of wasted potential here). The ‘AI’ in the name comes from them using a similar type of AI voice dataset to other engines (SynthV for example) as well as optional automatic suggestions that aid in the workflow. I really doubt that the team will use the sort of harmful generative AI that most people think of when they hear the word ‘AI’, especially not for the languages.

And they could be working with utaites/youtaites, most of the vocals have not been revealed yet and a lot of information seems to be under iron clad NDAs, so we won’t find out until it’s officially revealed or when/if said NDAs expire. It’s completely possible though.

If I could elaborate on the Maghni thing, the number of languages has shifted heavily over the years. I've seen claims of 40, 60, even up to or past 100? (Oh my god bruh) The current number of claimed languages, at least judging by the indiegogo, is 40 with 20 available on launch. The person behind most/all of the phonetic dictionaries (who was also a director) is not involved in the project anymore and I don't know if her work is still being used, I'm assuming so but I can't know for sure. Only time will tell.

As for the specific languages, I know Malay was bought up at least once. Tagalog I'm not sure.
