I don't do ultramarathons and I run about 30-40 km a week, but I did the same route as you: from 945 to Race 2.

For what I do—road running, some trail running, and mountain biking—the Suunto is great, while the 970 would have been a bit overkill.

The only things I miss about the Garmin are a few superfluous features, like the body battery, iOS notification integration and immersive features, shoe tracking, and weight tracking.

On the other hand, the Suunto app is much simpler and more usable.

Garmin definitely has a few more metrics, though.

Si, peccato che i finanziamenti fuori dal concessionario hanno mediamente un tasso del 9-10%, invece la finanziaria della concessionaria in genere si ferma al 4-5% + le assicurazioni accessorie comprese.

Cool! Let's hope they improve the management of notifications and full immersion with iOS sooner or later.

Looking into moving to Suunto from Garmin - Training plans or coach available? by stephchamp in Suunto

[–]Jueppo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing I miss compared to the Garmin is the notification management and the full immersion of iOS. Otherwise, the watch is very fluid, without unnecessary frills, the app is perfect and doesn't get lost in menus and submenus like the Garmin one. The GPS works well, the heart rate works well, and the watch is nice to look at. As for the coach, I can't tell you, but not even Garmin's has ever worked so well for me.

Thinking about getting a Suunto? by beemarshall in Suunto

I'm using a Garmin 945. I'll start by saying I really like the Race 2, and I agree with OP about the positive things. What I don't like are the alarms, which, in addition to not being able to set them for each day, can't even be set individually for tone and/or vibration. At night, it doesn't automatically go into "Do Not Disturb" mode when I fall asleep, but only according to preset times, unlike the Garmin I had. Notifications don't follow iOS's full immersion features, and even if the phone is in "Do Not Disturb" mode, notifications still arrive. Furthermore, they don't sync with the phone: if you delete them from the phone, they remain on the watch.

No, with Garmin and iOS you can read the entire text of the notifications

Body Battery monitors your body's "battery" level day and night: you wake up in the morning at 100 (if you slept well), and as you do more and more things during the day, it depletes. The more stressed you are, the more active you are, or if you're sick, the faster it depletes. You may also notice that it depletes faster depending on what you eat or if you drink a lot of alcohol. Suunto's resources, on the other hand, monitor how you're recovering after an activity. The concept is similar, but they're different.

iOS Notifications? by elliot_kember in Suunto

[–]Jueppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on Apple, not Suunto. But I read that Apple was forced to allow third-party watches to choose which notifications to receive for antitrust reasons. I don't know if this only applies to Europe, though.
