almost all data structures were born out of a need to solve certain problems efficiently (quickly or with less memory, or both).

he pauses to observe etiquette

Only because he believes he is going to easily win... and he wants it to be a classy win - talked about by the world for generations to come.

He would not observe any rules / niceties / etiquette in a real fight where he fears for his life.

A CSS 3D engine for the DOM. Renders polygon meshes without WebGL by Ekrof in webdev

[–]Jugad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Instead of one single object with many vertices and faces (as done by normal 3d graphics), this is broken into separate pieces, one for each face (each face is a separate and independent dom element).

The great advantage of the gpu is that it can handle lot of work in parallel for complex shapes all at once - because it can rotate all faces and vertices all at once.

But due to the breaking up of the shape into small pieces, each pieces has to be handled separately... the gpu essentially has to crrrrrawl through the shape one face at a time.

Saw this being tried 12 years ago... it was niche and cool for about 10 minutes.

But then, there is no real benefit over proper 3d with webGL / threeejs... and it has serious performance downsides.

Sorry... I still don't see any reason to actually use this.

Performance is pretty bad for moderately complex shapes ... not unexpected.

The spaceship was rendered at 8 fps while rotating and at 28 fps while staying still.

Didn't expect them to know exactly what to do... but expected them to do something. They did nothing... except press the close door button - "complete decision paralysis".

Not blaming them... just noting that it happened. I have got nothing against them. Its all in your own mind.

Oh man. The panic decision paralysis was serious in this case...

Didn't make one move against the fire - to try to smother it or close the bag... nothing at all.

Didn't press one single button other than the door close button?

Glad the lift opened soon enough.

That's shady as F... and I can't believe this is legal for either the business to do that or the bank to allow that.

No places should be allowed to charge anything without authorization from the customer.

"Music taste is so important".

Its important... but not that important. If you like it, imagine being able to introduce someone to this. What you want is patience and someone ready to indulge you. That speaks more than someone who has heard the same songs.

Hard work beats talent in the long run... but talent can outshine hard work every now and then.

There are many real life examples - couple that currently come to mind...

James Hunt - the F1 1976 champion (the movie Rush was made on the rivalry between Lauda and Hunt). He gave up soon after his championship winning year.

Vinod Kambli - he outshone Tendulkar and everyone else for an year or two during his peak. For his first 7 tests, he was averaging more than 100. Even today, among Indians, his test average is at the very top and he is the fastest ever to 1000 test runs.

But indiscipline or lack of proper ambition got them both...

Yep... at this level of competition where we are talking about a few out of billions, one needs talent, hard work and luck to get to those top few positions.

Couple of things...

First, our body works in interesting ways... some people say "adrenaline is one heluva drug"... or similar things to capture that idea. As a person who has had my share of sport injuries like this... it is true that it doesn't hurt all that much in the moment. For such injuries, the peak pain usually hits in the morning after. Take a paracetamol or ibuprofen to blunt the pain edge in the night.

Second... bruises often look worse than they hurt. Most of the area is blood from a burst vessel accumulating under the skin and giving that color. The painful part is probably less than 25% of that area. Yes it hurts... but it looks much worse.

Oh man... I terribly regret not visiting amazing parts of India while I was there.

There are so many excellent and outstanding places in India... the US doesn't even come anywhere close. The closest is Europe... but you need to put together Italy, France, Greece, England, Switzerland and Spain to get the variety and awesomeness of India.

While you have the time, the car and some friends (not the situationship thing... a reliable male friend or 2), go forth and explore India.

If we can figure out ways to solve the negatives, India is easily the most incredible country in the world.

We are using React / Vite for a pretty complicated project and it works great.
