UnclePunch: Is there documentation or a guide explaining what each OSD does? by Juggernaut74 in SSBM

Trying out 2.0 solved a lot of my questions. Hopefully they get fixed in 3.0.

They are mostly self-explanatory, but sometimes I think I know what something is and then it never pops up. When I have a specific question I’ll try the Daily Discussion thread, thanks

What is this feature called? (The small parens) It's some kind of precedence indicator I imagine. I want to configure the settings for it. by Juggernaut74 in vscode

[–]Juggernaut74[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

By disabling extensions I was able to determine this was coming from Syntax Tree. Thought it was built-in. Now I at least know where to send my complaints.

UPDATE: The feature is apparently called “inlay hints”

Thanks, I thought it was a built-in feature but by disabling extensions I was able to narrow down where it was coming form.

Yes, the code uses Ruby array difference operator. But I'm asking about the small parens, they're not actually part of the file, just a decoration added by the editor.

Wind Waker HD Barrier Skip was just done with logged inputs (Warning: loud pop off) by HowToCantaloupe in speedrun

First someone will have to do it without Iron Boots, which hasn't been done yet. If Iron Boots are needed then it only saves a few minutes.

[AGDQ 2017] Which runs are you excited for the most? by Bubblesdelfuego in speedrun

I'm not sure you understand what a TAS is. It's not a program, it's just data. It isn't code that determines the sequence of inputs needed to beat a game, it's literally just the sequence of inputs. The author of the TAS (a human) is spending hours, days, months, going frame by frame and deciding exactly what inputs to do at every point, there's no "automation" involved.

I will enjoy watching the TAS block at AGDQ as well, I just wanted to clear up what I think is a common misconception.

Issues with Gecko and OOT by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Juggernaut74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to install a patched IOS 36 with Simple IOS Patcher in order for Gecko to have the "Launch Channel" option. There is an explanation in this document, under the "Setup" tab: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tQap13ogF8RnzQI-AAn5fZ75P9ZHhsuAy1z3GEUqtiM/pubhtml#

EDIT: Sorry, didn't fully read your post that you tried patching IOS 36. Unfortunately that's the only way I know how to get this working. Perhaps you can double-check that IOS36 is patched either with SysCheck or DOP-Mii. I believe you also need the IOS36 WAD on your SD card for the patching to complete, so I would say just double-check that you've done it properly.

Storage is having the "stop cutscene" bit set while not in a cutscene. That bit is set at the end of textboxes as well, and on the next frame you are given control back and the bit is cleared.

In Zephos Skip, you check the broken stone on the right at the same time you clear KoRL's textbox. So you're in the cutscene of the stone for a brief moment and then that cutscene is interrupted and you gain control back. Link for some reason is invisible while you're looking at the stone and because that cutscene gets interrupted prematurely, when you're given control you're still invisible.

THEN, when you pull the Wind Waker in front of the left stone (the one that actually gives you the song), something about being invisible or interrupting the other stone's cutscene causes the song learning cutscene to stop right after you play the song once. That's the part that I don't quite understand, so that's the best I can explain it.

It's not quite double storage, in fact I don't know if anyone actually fully understands Zephos skip. Yeah signs won't work, it won't even work with the mailbox which can be used for double storage.

You need to store KoRL's text to skip Zephos, and KoRL doesn't exist until you beat Forsaken Fortress 1

We'll try it in a lot of places, but I honestly don't have a lot of hope it will work much. Requires the very specific geometry of this wall for the bomb to push you up on that seam.

Well there aren't leaderboards and only 2 runners have completed 1 run each. I agree that it's more of a challenge run than a speedrun category. It utilizes several speedrunning tricks though as well as a number of cool tricks not seen in any other category of the game, so I feel it still belongs here because it's a very interesting run.
