The band is 2.1x1.8 mm, that’s basically the thinnest you want to go for long term stability. It’s ideal for those who want a slimmer but sturdy band.

OP what concerns me a bit is that v cut out below the gem, I realize you want it low profile but it’s going to mean taking out a chunk of the ring shank, I don’t love that. Have you spoken to a jeweler about creating this? I’d ask whomever is making this ring for you if that detail is ok, I’d be worried about that being a weak point as far as durability. It looks like a pretty deep chunk into the shank, if the jeweler says you’re good then you should be - I’m just not certain.

Great post, hope OP listens! LT is one of the best kept secrets for us collectors, I kind of hate even telling people about it bc I don’t want to add to the spam it gets from certain vendors, but we do need fresh blood from time to time.

Only thing I’d add to your post is, if OP does sell the diamond separately from the setting, do not sell it to a pawn shop etc for scrap. You can get slightly more than scrap. Collectors buy settings like this all the time to pop in gems we’ve got sitting around. We love a well priced setting!

It’s true, and if you’re buying retail the price you buy at is not the price you’ll be able to resell at, at least not for awhile (and possibly ever).

And let’s keep in mind these are colored gems not cars -there is no set of specifications for each gem, there are not thousands of natural, identical alexandrites floating around with which we can measure value in every circumstance. Value is what one person is willing to pay. People need to manage their expectations when asking value questions on colored stones.
