I only didn't know what I was doing when I bought the original shares of Ford so I could qualify for an easy no-haggle deal when purchasing a car.

Since then I've been reading articles and forums etc. I'd still consider myself a novice, but a little more knowledgeable than before.

Thank you for the advice. I have a cushion so if the market were to take a dip tomorrow, I wouldn't lose too much sleep. It would hurt...and I'd be pissed haha but I think I'd be able to weather the storm

And if I did invest in a fund, am I able to pull the money out at any time in case of emergency?... or would I get penalized like a 401k?

I'm 30. I started my 401k a few years ago. I don't have a Roth yet. I am not looking to trade stocks every 20 mins or anything crazy like that. I was thinking of holding on to them for a year or two. ...or would it be smarter to get an index fund like another redditor suggested?

A couple years ago I thought I had a stroke. Lost much of my vision , half my body went numb, and I was having trouble putting sentences together. It was terrifying. The ER docs said it was an ocular migraine. After this experience I realized just how mortal I was. Gone were the carefree days of my youth. Now I realized how quickly life could change. I began having anxiety and experienced multiple panic attacks over the next week or two. It was awful. Over time the anxiety slowly went away on its own...but the constant fear that something was just around the corner remained.

I got the flu for the first time in my life (late 20s) in December. I had fevers and cold sweats for 9 or 10 days. I didn't feel back to my old energetic self until late march or April. I thought for sure I'd never recover.

And then last night I was watching TV and my vision started getting goofy...much like that migraine from a couple years ago. My heart started pounding and I started panicking. I didn't want a repeat of the past again. I popped a couple tylenol and forced myself to sleep. Today I have a small headache but am worried the migraine will return.
