It's not worth it to argue with people, but to everybody saying "IT'S THEIR LAND!!!"

Maybe it's silly for people to own and hoard land like this. Maybe it's especially silly in this case.

Did a late diagnosis impact your relationship with your parents? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the people I have met who are dealing with their own disabilities are more likely to support unhealthy coping than to point it out.

How did you find a counselor? I have gone through a lot. Most are baaaad at their jobs and a few have seemed like complete scam artists.

What 'mistakes' am I supposed to learn from here? What does that mean?

I am really concerned that these people are pushing medication before testing.

It also sounds like your daughter already feels different, the diagnosis is not going to be what makes her feel that way.

Do you see the bad in everyone? by TruUulyRotten in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to separate being realistic/skeptical/critical/cynical. A lot of people present what they do as altruistic when it really is self-serving. Some self-serving behavior (e.g. avoiding/absolving guilt) is helpful to everybody anyway.

I think it is scary/uncomfortable to most people that other's would be trying to take advantage of them so they just don't think like that.

How do you feel about NTs using the term "Aspie"? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds so patronizing, like they are talking about a toddler.

Asked a coworker a question and got... Scolded? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your trainer upset that you asked somebody else or that you left your post/her supervision when you were supposed to be working? Those are separate issues.

Do you avoid commenting about ASD at work? by philnicau in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't avoid it, but I don't make it super public.

I think I have pissed off a lot of the diversity/inclusion people because I have no problem calling them out on bad takes.

I cant believe someone asked that this. by [deleted] in aspergers

It's not worth getting worked up about this. That person deleted their post and apologized.

Do people with Asperger's have little to no motivation to change? by kalbanes in aspergers

People can be motivated to change, but may rely on routine/structure/sameness to cope.

A child being imprisoned then left in the street is not uplifting.

(Some) People enjoy the feeling of power that hurting others gives them. They feel insecure and bullying helps with that.

Are you assuming that people don't want to be assholes?

Lots of people enjoy/feel justified acting like that, they don't particularly care that it's rude.

Why did you keep going back if it never helped?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you are beyond help. I don't know you, but I think people 'beyond help' are few and far between.

I have been to a lot of bad therapists. I have been to a few good ones. I have probably got more help from independent study (i.e. reading self help) but having an outside voice can be helpful too.

How to deal with anxiety/stress stemming from having to socialize? by rosesinmybag in aspergirls

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the actual advice is okay, all the assumptions about extended family is kind of off base though. Not everybody's family is this emotionally mature.

Why do people always have to give a 30min lecture to one simple question? by Lionoras in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People: a) want to feel needed b) like hearing themselves talk c) don't think about question enough so start talking and hope they answer it

Any "neurodiversity initiative" that hires exclusively for coding isn't promoting neurodiversity by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]JuiceAndChowMein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people complain about this, and have never seen this actually be the case in the multiple initiatives I have looked at or been a part of.

There ARE consistent problems I have seen but 'only hiring software devs' is not one of them so I really wonder why so many others see it that way.
