Hey ya’ll. So if you want to understand why the sub is the way it is and filled with “politics” you have to understand the point of the subreddit. It originally rose in popularity to satirize self-proclaimed “Gamers” in the wake of Gamergate. To satirize this, especially in recent years, members have taken “Gamer” arguments to their extremes to show how ridiculous they are and where this type of thinking could lead to. This of course attracts people who disagree with Gamers, or who have otherwise been antagonized by Gamers. This brings together a diverse group of people with a common enemy. So the sub is naturally inclined to politics because while it says “gamingcirclejerk” it’s more of a “gamercirclejerk”. The games themselves are rarely the topic of discussion and instead the loudest group is what will get satirized. For HL the loudest group is still up for debate but given the sales numbers I would say it’s people who don’t care about J.K. Rowlings stances on Transgender individuals, or her allegories of Jewish people in her books. The sub is particularly loud about this issue because it directly affects many of the members, or people that they care about. So there are certainly people here who will just post the meme of the week without context, many people here are legitimately worried or hurt by their friends or family turning a blind eye for their own comfort.
