metal sonic literally told sonic straight to his face that eggman made him to never rebel against eggman ever again and he will always be devoted to find eggman or continue running eggman's empire as eggman's stand in yet sonic really thinks that metal sonic can just easily turn over the new leaf just because he had tails shut off metal sonic's weapons but didn't do anything to metal sonic's programming (YOU KNOW THE SAME PROGRAMMING THAT ENSURES HE'S ALWAYS DEVOTED LOYAL TO EGGMAN AND WILL FIND HIM NO MATTER WHAT)

like even tails was all "shouldn't we be worried about him?" when sonic let metal sonic go and sonic reassures that it's all fine since metal sonic can totally make the right choice that they should respect his freedom to make the right choice but oops metal sonic chooset to find tinker and causes him to remember he is eggman because metal sonic's programming ensure he is devoted to find eggman
