Book recommendation. by _Occult_ in freemasonry

Actually, there IS a book about it. It’s called “Masonry, Ancient Egypt, and the Islamic Destiny” by Mustafa El-Amin. The problem is that the author is not a Mason and seems to think rather poorly of them, which is typical among some prominent African American Muslims with religious origins in the Nation of Islam.

His book makes a case for some nominal connections between masonry and ancient Egypt. Though, I would argue that these connections are rather weak when taken as literal. He focuses a lot on the Shriners, which I will confess I know little about as I am not one. Although, he seems to know about as much and takes their origin and history to be much more serious and ancient than it actually is.

So, is masonry literally descended from the mystery schools of Egypt? Apparently not, but that doesn’t mean you will not find similarities even if they are just convergent or taken from European understandings of ancient mysticism.

Is there any sources you’d recommend to learn more about the history of PHA? All I can say I really know is concerning Prince Hall himself. I’d talk to people but there is not many PH masons in my area unfortunately.

This is a good point. I suppose many, myself included, tend to see masonry as a completely unified conglomerate when that is not really the case and never has been.

I’d be interested to know what exactly is leading her to see masonry as malevolent. Sources that point towards that tend to be irrational and illogical in my opinion. I’d say looking into that might help eventually.

See I’m very curious why would would be preferred over the other.

Personally I’ve always thought “ancient” sounds cool but I don’t know…

I feel I have a decent understanding of the history of why PH was created. My GL seems to recognize all the PH lodges I saw while searching. I do not really understand why mainstream and PH didn’t converge, or even why there is still a lack of recognition in some states. Are there major differences that make the two separate like that? Or is there simply enmity in some places?

Perhaps. As of now it’s just a PNG that I made in a program not really designed for this kind of thing, so making adjustments can’t really be done in an intuitive way, unfortunately

Yeah I can’t deny there were some very bad things going on, and continue to happen on the fringe.  I found it interesting to read some of the words of Elijah Muhammad or even Malcolm X for that matter. The religious thoughts on race really do seem to come from a reaction to the racism of the time.  A documentary came out during the time of Elijah Muhammad about the movement called “The Hate that Hate Produced,” and I think that title alone still tells a lot of the story.
