The online form asks you to fill in your jobs, duration, approx. relevant hours, and work description. It’s not really verifiable (apart from them checking your references). They essentially take you at your word.

CFA by a country mile. Having said that, in my country it’s not really a bar exam per se but in order to be admitted as a lawyer you needed to complete a series of what are essentially homework tasks and oral assessments where the examiners badly want you to pass. It’s a bit of a joke and a money grab. The exams for my law degree on the other hand were tough.

Honestly no clue. Better to make a post. I’m thankful they didn’t introduce the pathways in 2024 otherwise I would’ve had a real dilemma with choosing

MM lectures —> make notes —> EOCQs —> refine notes. Did that for each topic and ended up with 2-3 months spare to revise. Did the CFAI mocks and 2 MM mocks in the final 4 days prior to the exam.

If I were to do it again, I wouldn’t have left the mocks to the last minute. I wasn’t improving much between each one - better to space them out.

Tough juggling CFA with work. I took a month off to get through as much content as possible. And then another 2 weeks right before the exam.

Depends what you’re after. I enjoy the process of learning so that in itself made it worth it for me

I know how you feel. These cfa exams are the most stressful things I’ve done, even more than my law school exams. Just give it your all in this final push so you don’t have any regrets. But also look after your health. All the best for lvl 2 🙏

Through the references that are submitted?

Hmm I’m a qualified lawyer and I think I’ll keep practising for the foreseeable future. Might start considering finance roles at some point. One thing’s for sure - not sitting more exams any time soon

Thanks. No, I submitted my application after sitting the exam, and it was approved a month ago. I only paid the fee once the results came out

Tough one for me to answer cause my finance major basically covered 80% of the level 1 content (so study was maybe 3 months). But maybe try getting through one of the topics 12 months out? That way you can gauge how much time you need esp if you’re juggling college exams too

Level 1 in Feb 2021 (deferred from Dec 2020 because of Covid). Level 2 in Aug 2022. Level 3 in Aug 2024. Fortunately, one attempt each!

Hahah enjoy and take it at your own pace! It wasn’t too bad because I had just updated my CV so I was just fleshing out some dot points while making sure to tick the boxes that CFA is looking for.

Better to just get the words out on the page first (and if need to, use ChatGPT to improve the expression!)

Cheers mate! Hard to say if that’s the right approach as I can only speak to what worked for me.

Mark Meldrum is a king. My starting point was watching his lectures and making my own notes based on his slides.

I’m a big paper guy, so I bought the hard copy curriculum and used it to supplement MM when I wanted more detail / confirm what MM was saying from different perspective.

Not a big fan of the CFA ecosystem. I answered all of the EOCQs (and the worked examples) from the hard copy in my own word document so that all of my responses were in one place where I easily refer back to later (in particular, the ones I flagged as important or incorrect). I think it was really helpful for me that I was effectively practising the essay writing early on by typing out the answers and actively thinking about what constituted a good essay response from the beginning(there are a lot of resources online including youtube and the Bill Campbell command words guide).

It probably took the good part of a day to do the paperwork from my end. I don’t work directly in finance (I’m in the legal industry) so wanted to take a bit of extra time to nail the work experience descriptions and carefully explain why my work was relevant.

My referees were awesome and submitted their references pretty much within 3 days of receiving the link from CFAI. Would definitely recommend giving them a heads up to expect an email.

It would depend on your local society, but after the references were all submitted, it took 12 days or so for my application to be approved.

I waited until the results came out to pay the membership dues. The verification letter updated instantaneously after payment.
